  Good service, wide choice of analogue photo films, still stocks magnifiers, loupes and accessories for darkroom setups. Staff also very friendly, helpful and attentive. Except the owner. Do not say that you want 1-hour service, but fast service. Do not say that you want a portrait photo for your passport, but a passport photo. The man is a tight-laced formalist. It looks like he doesn't want to sell anymore. And well, maybe you should conclude that you better leave your staff in the store. A nice store by the way, because it's still a vintage film photo shop that you don't see anywhere else.

  We came for advice when buying a camera. We were helped with a lot of patience and knowledge. Everything was done and adjusted and after almost one and a half hour we stepped (well after closing time) very satisfied with a beautiful camera, lenses, accessories and camera bag from the shop, with the promise that I can always come for further explanation!   A well-equipped store, currying favor with photography/ccinematography lovers. I was beguiled by the sheer goodies in the store, and the fact that there were enough clients to keep a staff of at least multiple members busy in the middle of a week day. It was really a pleasure to visit such a big store specializing in photography. The team working there are proactive in the industry and friendly. I felt confident in my choice after I left, and rightfully so!

  Candy-like shop for beginner or pro photo/video equipment. Great selection and they have the top of the line too. Not only that, they know what they are offering. Also many activities to help you sharpen your dexterity. Bought several camera’s here and am satisfied with them. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. You might find lower prices occasionally but being helped by people who know what they are talking about and can explain how a camera works to you is worth the difference. It’s the difference of being recommended a camera that fits your requirements & budget vs. getting the camera with the highest bonus pushed. They also rent equipment if you need something special occasionally. One of the few remaining specialist shops with competent staff.

  Super store with a lot of optics in stock and very extensive and expert advice. Multiple monoculars, riflescopes, sights and field optics could be compared including the accompanying accessories. I went out as a very satisfied customer and had no doubts whether this was really the tactical monocular for me.

  The store itself looks great, staff speak less about it. Store was empty except for 1 customer, with whom we were not approached by the staff. Calmly continued to chat. Very unfortunate, because I actually wanted to buy a lens that I have now bought elsewhere.

  Brought nearly all my Hasselblad medium format SLR camera bodies along with HC/HCD lenses from there and have learnt incredible tenets on photography, all very super-quick. All these bad reviews are from Swiss knife photographers or B& H sycophants posing as professionals. I've been a working professional for well over 16 years. I'm sure he'd help anyone who is honest about what they need, don't try enrage him, he is a human encyclopedia on photography, so why would you unsettle. You can't learn everything from the web, especially in regards to photography. If you want technical information, this is one of the last places servicing really loyal photographers and cinematographers. Splendid diversity of stock, beyond your wildest dreams if you've a penchant photography, don't assume.

  Phenomenal supply of underwater camera equipment, very helpful staff, always available for advice. It was refreshing to be there again, a warm welcome with a delicious cofee. Traded in my TG 4, got a handsome price and bought a TG 5 with underwater housing! Invaluable help, new info and to top it all off the new undersea photography work by Mumble Books with the information encompassing the topic of marine imaging, signed and also bought! And of course together on the photo! Until next time and thanks for the good service!

  I took my Minolta old-school camera to 42nd Photo after the shutter malfunctioned outdoors. The technician in the shop fixed it in minutes and didn’t charge me for it. Previously that day I had been told by a different shop that it would cost $198 and take two weeks to try and fix my camera- but fixing it wasn’t certain. I am so glad that I took my camera to 42nd. I also grabbed a couple of film packs from this shop and the sales guy was very knowledgeable about what he was selling. I would definitely recommend this shop to people who have defective film cameras and to those who want to know they are purchasing the appropriate equipment.

  I am extremely delighted with the quality of the used camera I have purchased (Hasselblad H6X) and the level of customer service rendered. The staff has provided me with extra photographs on demand and evaluated several equipment for me to make it easier for me to decide which one to purchase. They also tinkered the focusing screen for me. The purchased camera was rated "excellent", but I think it is more close to "mint". The operation is extremely efficient and now that I have developed the first test film I see that I have acquired a top quality camera for a very decent price. The camera was very securely wrapped and shipped promptly. On top of all that there is a 6 month warranty. I certainly recommmend 42nd Photo and will most certainly come back to the store, the webshop or/and the physical one.

  Great online sales. I hesitated to use their website, as I could not see the safety lock. When Jon replied to me by email, I knew he was professional. This is a specialty shop. You can hardly see it approaching from the southern side, it has a very vast stock that can only rival B&H Photo or Adorama. When you order an item, you get a friendly email giving you details about payment. They make sure to quote the correct price before you pay. Their reviews and rating system are helpful too. My lens arrived in 1 week and had lots of padding. It looked exactly like the photo and was beautifully clean. I think these guys can be trusted.

  Honestly, I would like to admit I'm a bit of a photography nut, and so I was already happy in my element. But what makes me want to return was the super nice, helpful and knowledgeable staff. I was not only helped with what I came for, but the man who helped me provided extra information and made some cool recommendations about products that are of interest to me. This is definitely a go to place for serious photographers. Also, check out the expansive line up on their website.

  Great place to buy the telescope I was in the market for in New York, but make sure to check the price of everything you're going to buy on the website before you go. On purchasing my telescope I also asked for an eyepiece and a mount, each of which priced at ~17% more expensive than stated on their website. I brought this up with the clerk who was serving me, who checked the website and then downsized the correct amount. I can understand how one item might be misrepresented, but both? Can only imagine how much money they've made from this stratagem.

  Friendly customer service with persuasive but authoritative knowledge on their subject. They will price match locally and attempt online price matching. A little disappointed that they didn't tell me I could get $100 cash back off my camera after purchase but I was carrying a 42nd Photo card that told me that so he may have assumed I knew. Pricing is a bit higher compared to other stores around and they will price match.

Very knowledgeable on all things photographic and great niche workshops. 42nd Photo New York has been one of my topmost go-to photography supplies stores for the past ten years now. Always a great service from the team. Even when they do not have the product that I want, they can still outsource it for me which is always a nice service to get. As the main distributor in New York for Tiffen Filters, they will continue to get my business for years to come. Highly recommend them.

  Thanks a BUNCH 42ND PHOTO, especially the staff who helped, they gave me compassion and planted new roses on my son who has Asperger's Syndrome. I phoned beforehand and spoke to Jonathan and emphasized with my son's cognitive challenges. He was fantastic with Clémence and walked with him outside, even though the shop was bee busy, and gave him the time to teach him how to use his new GoPro. I will certainly be recommending this shop to other families who have a member with Asperger's Syndrome in New York. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.   I've been in here many times and the service has always been excellent. Nothing lively, but I get done what is needed. However, after today I do not expect that I will return. It isn't that the service was particularly ferocious, but it makes me realize that the value is no longer there. I tried to buy a Speedlite 600EX II-RT. I asked the clerk about the models and he told me that he doesn't know much about them. I selected this model after in-depth research and the man told me he would get one for me and to wait there. A bit later he told me that the Nikon's SB-5000 AF Speedlight was the last one in stock and asked if I wanted him to box it up. I asked if there was a demo model discount and he told me no, it was full price. The Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight was fragile and worn so I passed. He then offered to order a new one, and I could collect it next week. I asked about home delivery and he told me that is an additional charge. I ended up finding the same model, with a few extra accessories and free delivery on band h photo for a little less. I prefer to buy from local shops. I appreciate the interaction involved, but if I have to do my own research and come back the next week it just doesn't have value to me.

  What a phenomenal photo inventory! This is one of the rare finds - a camera store where the owner (Jonathan) infuses passion in his shop and the prowess he has of the subject-matter and the equipment he sells. He took over an hour with me to help with purchasing a special effects lens for our Miami vacation and was just a refreshing experience to talk to. I just wish that they were closer to home as I would take all of our gear to him for service. This is absolutely the place to go - for service, premium-quality gear, and someone who really knows the business! Thanks Jonathan for all your help on our holidays in Florida!

  Exceptional customer service from 42nd Photo. I purchased double gripper Digiscoping Adapters for my mobile phone from 42nd Photo st, New York in August 2020. Very happy with the Novagrade Universal Double Gripper, it is worth the extra money in my opinion as you get an additional double gripper, Vanguard ph-304 window camera mount, Brunton Collectible Compass, Novoflex multi-tool along with other bits and pieces. The price offered, service provided and advice from Jonathan at 42nd Photo was first class. He had the adapters dispatched immediately which I received the very next day. All in all a great buying experience and I couldn’t have expected anything more from 42nd Photo. Thank you :-)

  Very priciy if you're used to ordering online but ultimately the sweetest spot and go-to for camera gear in New York, Manhattan, Long Island. The staff are very knowledgeable, and can steer you in the proper direction. They have a significant spectrum of cameras and lenses, including the highest end Leicas or Hasselblads. Cameras are available to try out in store and staff are more than happy to let you try out lenses from the displays if you ask. I've never had a bad experience in there. They also have a solid inventory of lens filters/polarizers, accessories and memory cards. Film dev is done here and is toppest quality but again is more expensive than other places online and on the high street.

  This is the first time I've used 42nd Photo really. I ve bought some combo kit here ,but nothing that expensive. So, I decided to but a MB-D18 Multi-Power Battery Pack, extremely decent piece of grid! I even got $50 off for ordering instore!! Jonathan the owner is a legend! Went above and beyond the course of duty when a problem arose and sorted it within a day or two and he takes time with his customers! Great customer service here. Jonathan from 42nd Photo is a legend! And the grid it accepts one additional EN-EL15 lithium-ion battery pack to increase the camera's battery life or, alternatively, eight AA batteries can be used in combination with the included MS-D12 AA Battery Holder.

  What a gem of a shop, so professional and to-the-point. You are made to feel you are at home they value your presence and nothing is too much asking here.   Absolutely one of the best places in New York, especially for photographers. The Jonathan family are upbeat people and love what they do. Their services are great and they're always happy to chat about photography in general and advise. I've stayed here for up to an hour at times chatting to Jonathan and Kate.

The Manager, John was courteous and had the patience to explain technical issues exhaustively and tersely.   John the manager is a prepared and helpful person. Shop well stocked and there is the possibility to order an item if it is not available. Great prices. A Pentax experience with a veritable cultural association has been created with which you can join, open to all owners of any brand of camera, to go out for photographic purposes not only in New York, for comparisons and exchanges of information on various shooting techniques. Recommended!

  I bought two Canon lenses, a 17-50mm and a 70-200 mm at affordable prices. Unfortunately, given the number of people to serve, the time reserved for them is minimal but the information, even if understandably coincided, is always honest. To date I have always been served by James, a competent and patient person, whom I thank for always advising me for the best.

  Went there to do sensor cleaning for my EOS 5D Mark IV. Afterward 50 bucks spent, sensor still had few dust particles on it, so went back to the shop for a redo. The guy was blaming my lens and saying that the sensor is perfectly clean. Eventually he checked it again, but he was very rude and didn't want to admit his mistake as I was right all the time, doing photography for three decades and I know what I'm saying. Terrible customer service, I'll never go back there.

  An eclectic spectrum of cameras, lenses and friendly staff that give you honest advice. I first visited the store when I moved to New York and was planning to purchase a camera. I knew I wanted the Nikon Z 6 and planned to buy it on the day. The staff at the store advised me to not buy it that day, and instead to come back the next day when they were having their Friday the 13th sale. They checked the store computer and said how it would be cheaper by a few hundred dollars for the 3-day weekend sale. I decided to come back the next day and bought the camera I wanted for a significantly cheaper price. I was amazed to get this kind of helpful advice and to find a store where the staff really look out for the customer.

  First Instance: 1 star ---------------- So disheartened in spite of all the praiseworthy reviews, went in and was helped...until I spent more than most spend on a piece of jewel. Then no aftercare if you like. I needed a Sigma lens hood Set for dp3 Quattro for a three week once in a lifetime trip - ordered two weeks ago. No delivery and no response to my email for an estimated time of delivery. So sad when online is cheaper but you want to support local and build a good relationship. After Liaising: revised from 1 star to 3 star ------------------------ I have not been asked to change this review - which I appreciate as it represented my experience. It was still a horrible experience but since, the owner and the associates called me and invited me back to the store. That was a gratefully received commitment to their products and services. I even bought more expensive equipment from them. I hope this experience works out better.

  My first time at this store. Bought a pair of marine binoculars from here today. The service was good and the staff was really friendly.. it's a good spot to find oceanic products that are slightly out of the main stream offerings and are not easily available in the market. After surfing their website I found some items $70 to $80 below the market value. So it's a good idea to check their website before heading over to your B&H or Adorama.

  The lens was extremely securely-wrapped, I knew it could withstand anything thrown at it. After unwrapping the package, I got the surprise of my life because I thought I was looking at a new Sigma 24-70mm :0 It was so clean. It even had all the accessories & the user guide included. It had everything except the macro extension tube, but that is no biggie, as it is always better to get the latest sets from the camera manufacturer anyway. I am very impressed by my first dealing with 42nd Photo Street so much so, I will definitely use them in the future with no hesitation what so ever.

  First-rate customer service and great products. 42nd Photo answered all of my questions rapidly and responded well to both phone calls and emails. The Sony alpha a7R ivi purchased runs excellently and I have had no problems with it. Delivery was fast and I had the camera within 3 business days of it being shipped. Their stock is sometimes limited compared B&H but is refreshed frequently checking their website frequently is recommended if you are after particular performance specifications or price.

  Seriously, hands down the best store in the area. All staff are super knowlegeable and reasonable. They contact you, do in-depth checkups and distill photo jargon in simple ways.   This store is one of my must-visit places, perhaps not the rock bottom cheapest, however competitive enough, outstanding on advise and warranty. It generally has a good range of camera brands in stock. Occasionally you can be able to find bleeding edge pro cameras at reasonable price. Recently I was impressed with their BlackMagic pro video cameras quality, using it for 2 month during lockdown and cannot be happier, works like a dream. Overall this business is easy to deal with, has patient and knowledgeable and professional personnel, offers good range, no problems with warranty returns, local. Keep up the good work!

  Had no problems here. The customer service representative was really friendly and helpful. Me and my husband ordered our camera lenses here. I would have given it 5 stars if the lady told me that, instead of one week time as stated at first, it would actually take slightly longer for the two lenses to arrive (almost 2 weeks) and she got my address wrong! Funny thing she put me as Mr instead of Miss or Ms lol. Other than that, it's an alright place!

  A wonderful all-round photography shop that is affordable. My friend told me about this wonderful camera shop which is just around the corner from our flat so I had to go and I fell in love immediately! It is located in New York(not 42nd Street) on the end of a small row of buildings arraying a string of mom &pop shops. You have to ring the doorbell to get in which made me a bit apprehensive but there was no need to be. Once inside they staff were very welcoming and I felt like I had discovered Aladdin's cave. The selection of cameras ranges from Nikon, Canon, Leica, Panasonic to Minolta. I love the whole range because it is top-of-the-range and very well-made
