  Beautiful and intriguing camera store full-packed with the incredible Hasselblad and Leica brands. You will find beautiful cameras for wildlife photography, I bought a Canon 7D Mark II here. I've captured images for birds, flowers, foxes, insects, quirky American charms and their famous (and original!) bumblebee. 42nd Photo also sells the most stunning pro video cameras, and have lots of digital cine you can try onsite. If you want to a piece of gear with your own personal twist, there is also a used equipment section upstairs where you can meet to commission a piece of your very own!

  Such a great store with friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and patient staff who are happy to help and give their advice on camera types, lenses compatibility and pro video equipment.   I dropped a Canon EOS RP here for repair right before Covid-19 struck New York. After a vortex of market chaos that no one had anticipated, as soon as stores were able to reopen again they did their best to get me my new repaired gear as soon as possible. The camera was repaired perfectly and my business partner was really happy with the work. 5/5 for repair and also outstanding customer service. The owner went out of his way to text me during the process of getting my camera repaired, picked up from the factory and coordinating a time with me to pick it up. Would definitely return and would recommend anyone to try this place.

  Their customer support after the sale is also fuss-free and Jacob has intervened with manufacturers more than once on my behalf when I was having trouble getting a product repaired. When my fujifilm X-T4 needed repair under their lifetime warranty the lady at Fuji USA said, "You may have to waiver warranty conditions" when she found out I had neglected to invoke my warranty rights in a timely manner. Rather than argue with her and waste my time I brought the camera back to 42nd Photo Street, Jacob made one phone call to Fuji, he shipped it out, and in six weeks I received it back from Fujifilm good as new. I was a nobody to Fuji, but Jacob made one call and it turned into a smooth transaction.

  The people at 42nd Photo St are friendly, knowledgeable, and they go the extra mile to take care of their customers. I happily drive a two hour trip to purchase from them, and often make the trip just to visit and see the exquisite and beautiful equipment on display in their shop. If you are in the NY or Manhattan area it's a must see. If you are anywhere else, pick up the phone and call them, particularly if you are considering purchasing a newly-released or limited product. They'll give you the cream of their stock, and will make sure you get a good example of the thorough-bred.

  42nd Photo St is a great photography resource, and I love the comprehensive stock, Jacob, the owner, and his employee Paul are aficionados in all types of cameras, surveillance equipment, pro video and associated equipment, and are willing to impart their knowledge to anyone who steps in. It is almost a warranty that anyone who walks in, whether expert or novice, will walk out having harvested more ken than before. Most importantly, Paul stands behind what he sells, and will not offer anything that is not up to snuff. If a camera does not meet specs he will send it back to the manufacturer for repair or replacement, and the customer is always assured of getting what s(he) pair for. If you live in the New York greater area and have an interest in photography a visit to 42nd Photo Street is a must.

  Inherited a beautiful Hasselblad camera that unfortunately had some hardware defects. It was quite expensive but they needed a lot of work. It required patience but at the end of the day I received my camera and they are professionally fixed it and I am extremely happy with the workmanship. I recommend 42nd Photo.

  I have been working with 42nd Photo Street, on and off, for many years. They have provided cameras and lenses to our business as well as myself as an amateur photographer. This may be one of the last brick and mortar stores where you can see a massive inventory / museum of an staggering array of camera equipment. Jacob, Paul and team are top tier experts. I would consider them "TOP-BRASS" in their field. I don't know anywhere in New York, perhaps the world, where the average Joe can open the door and obtain this level of advice or buying services. They will simply not accept a substandard camera from a manufacturer. If you are Leican, they can help. If you have a kid thirsty for firsthand photography experience, there is no better place to get it. You DON'T want their first "seeing" experience to discourage their future as a possible photography professional. This can be accomplished with a well tuned, budget friendly, solution if you get the right camera. In my opinion, this is the only place to buy a camera.

  Outstanding service and extensive inventory of high end telescopes. As a veteran of science astronomy documentaries, I was looking for the ultimate piece of quality telescopes to last me a lifetime. They had all the best brands including Celestron, Meade, and Orion. Paul was very knowledgeable and patient as he guided me through the selection process. I walked away a very happy astronomer!!

  This is THE place to go in NY for all your bird-watching/scope needs as well as gifts for your bird-loving friends. There is a wide variety of binoculars and viewfinders, and the staff knows when and which gear is best for whatever situation you have. I was also pleasantly surprised by their myriad of bird and other wildlife books AND their binocular selection!

  I popped in here to browse lenses and bags I was considering for an upcoming trip. We ended up speaking to the proprietor (Arnold) who was extremely helpful, took his time and gave us a lot of useful suggestions.   The associates here go that extra mile to satisfy you. If you are like me and just starting to get your feet into astro-photography the staff here will take the time to explain everything you need to know. They will make sure you understand what you're purchasing and make sure it's the right optics for your needs. Over the years I've purchased many different telescopes and eyepieces from this spot and I've never had a distasteful experience. In fact, after learning a little more about the merchandise I end up making a better deal than what I initially went in there for.

  I attended a workshop by 42nd Photo Street years back. I love that you get unlimited time instead of by the quick hour like other places. The staff is incredibly helpful and nice, they really take there time helping you find the perfect camera but are extremely quick at getting all the paperwork done. I just purchased my first mirror-less digital camera from them (Sony Alpha a7R IV ) and I couldn't have been happier with the experience. This is and always will be my go-to camera gear shop.

  Friendly and knowledgeable staff who are willing to impart their knowledge when asked. The store is tidy, well equipped and inviting. The range is wonderful, and encompasses all major brands. Have had the pleasure of dealing with Jonathan, Kate, and John. Great people! Kate helped me exhaustively with questions and his expertise on an EOS Rebel T7 issue. He resolved the problem, and was willing to show me what the issue was, how to fix it, and was very patient with me. REAL customer service! The pricing is a little higher here but the staff and ambiance more than make up for it. The passion the staff has for their jobs/photography shows not only in their demeanor but in their attitudes towards the American people. They enjoy what they do. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

  Have been coming here for years now and trust their experience completely. They always have a handpicked pool of employees who are willing to help and explain how things work and what you might need. They do have a ton of cameras, lenses and accessories for sale. Wish they had more though. The range downstairs is really neat. You can browse any type of camera down there.

  John was excellent in teaching me about the different DSLR cameras and mirroless lenses, helping me find a great Sony 24mm f-1.4 , was very knowledgeable about everything, and had an answer for every single one of my questions.   These guys are Awesome. I visited on three separate occasions and each time dealt with a different photo pro. Not only were they helpful and friendly but were very knowledgeable.   My husband took me to this shop a couple weeks ago. It was my first time feeling a camera. The process was quick and easy. They have several ‘demos’ available to test, so we were able to get to the task off the bat. The staff was friendly and helpful. We bought two cameras but you can rent from them, also they offer lessons/training for those that need it. I would recommend calling before to ask important questions. They also have a large selections of Nikon, Canon, Leica, Sony cameras and accessories upstairs. The staff is knowledgeable and their prices are competitive. It was a fun experience, I will definitely be back.

  They made the instore special financing feel a little more comfortable for me which I highly appreciate.   We took it all to the camerasmith of this camera shop. This expert got to look at it and cleaned it thoroughly. It all look so brand new after it was cleaned. We are very happy with what they did, especially my dad.

  After buying an entry-level camera, I immediately started thinking about getting it tricked out – my goal was to give it a hefty overhaul, so I went online and started looking for a shop. I finally found a place where I could get my gear given the knife at a reasonable price with superior results.   My brother and I just got back from a tour in Europe, in time for our dad's 50th birthday. Our old man has always been a fan of cameras, and despite the fact that he worked as a sales in a photo shop for more than 20 years, he never actually owned a single film/ digital camera; so, we decided to get him an full-frame style Alpha a7 III , and have his name & age emblazoned; your experts did an amazing job with that single action piece. In my father's words, “ this is the best present I have ever received.” Thanks for helping us make our old man happy!

  Dear Mr. Mark, we are happy to inform you the Viewfinder I purchased was a good steal deal. I purchased a highly customized, high end, luxury-style viewfinder with many modifications to make my equipment unique. I also received a complimentary extra magazine at no cost and instructions for servicing and caring for my Hasselblad H6X with HV 90X-II. I have, then and now, bought many cameras of many different costs and prices. I will be happy to consult you in the near future with my viewfinder or camera needs.

  The boys here are always busy, but will always give you their attention when they’re able. Mark is probably the best in terms of product knowledge. He’s sold me these two Fisheye lens after months of visiting the store and asking his opinion I’ve finally made the decision to purchase these two optics and they have met every expectation that I have been told about by Mark. They gentlemen are enthusiastic workers that have a great knowledge base. I wish I knew about them earlier prior to getting my cameras.

  Owned and operated by gentlemen who provide excellent customer service. These guys specialize in photography, and they have the most competitive prices I have seen. They sell the same gear as other camera shops, but at lower prices. Every camera shop I called in New York, wanted 125 to 150 dollar to deal with a lens attachment breakage, these lads only charged 50. Got a nice set of Copal #0 Shutter from them at a good price, minus all the sales speak. Great shop and when I start upgrading, I'll be getting all my stuff from these boys.

  I contacted the shop 30/8/19 in the evening from New England. re a new 24-105mm f/4L lens for my EOS R 5 & the owner was extremely helpful in confirming the correct one I wanted . Confirmed it was in stock so I asked to pay by credit card but he could not do that & emailed me an invoice that afternoon. I done a direct payment late on the following day & my lens was here the next morning. Will certainly be a customer again.

  This has become my go-to optics, scopes, riflecscopes & night sights shop. Ive just started shooting and it was good to come into a store where you're not made to feel stupid. The guy who set up my first setup for extreme weather, matt I think his name was?? was very helpful. So far no bad experiences.

  What an AWESOME store! These guys helped an aspiring astrophotography newbie like myself get his first telescope, and well-kitted me with essential accessories. They even patiently dealt with my thousands of dumb, heady questions. Customer service is excellent. They give the same excellent service regardless of if you're spending 10 or 10,000 dollars. When my learning curve improves I'll be coming back here to get a more powerful telescope and eyepiece. Thanks for your help!

  CUSTOMER SERVICE is immaculate. I saw Matt and he addressed me like a son, did not rush or induce me and was very attentive. Generally every time I have been here, savings aside, the service has stood out! I do wish it was a little less of a drive, but my willingness to drive over an hour when there are 3 Camerashops closer is a smoking gun to just how good this Camerashop is.

  This shop has the most excellent service anywhere. Plenty of staff on hand and a great selection. They stand by their products and will go the extra mile to ensure the customer is happy.   I contacted 42nd Photo Street today by phone ( I'm outside NY ) to purchase an alpha a9 camera housing. The service I received was Impeccable! Not only did they spend the time to inspect the case for me; they also sent me screenshots, and in addition checked that the particular piece I had would fit, by putting bodies they had in stock ( that were similar and also the same as mine ) in the case to ensure the one I had, would fit. The service and patience shown by the staff…in particular Matt ( sorry if spelling is incorrect ) and also James was second to none. I have dealt with many business’s over the years, and this is by far the best service I have ever received. Thank you so much, William Chuck!

  Excellent customer service and an extraordinary range. I was greeted by friendly, professional staff and given first class advice without the sales streak to grow their profit margin. I drove all the way in from Brooklyn when I could have gone to at least 4 other shops at stone's throw, but I wanted to check this place out as I hadn't been there before and I'd heard good things about it from my colleagues. I wasn't heartbroken. Run by a lovely squad with years of experience under the belt. I'll be recommending 42nd Photo St to all of my veteran photographers, comrades and good friends. Thanks guys!

  I will try to be as in-depth and down-to-earth as possible with this review: DIVERSITY of products is EXTENSIVE, widest variety of products. With something like a hobby, a wide selection of products is a must - if 42nd Photo Street doesn't have it in stock they order it in if locally available. PRICES are the most unbeatable I've noticed in New York, on average I save $70 on camera equipment when I buy at 42nd Photo Street. Even though I have camera shops near my apartment, I buy in bulk and buy from here to lessen the financial costs of shooting.

  Terrible place, they never run out of Canon binoculars for me to buy! They always have plenty of accessories, new image stabilized binoculars, the latest gear, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff, wide range of auxiliaries. How am I supposed to discharge my mortgage soon when they're always doing deals?

  I recently purchased a Leica M10-R that was packaged and completely set up by the very knowledgeable Mark. The store was busy and I said, just dry fit and I can set it up at home... he asked if I was in a hurry and said he would rather take the time and make sure it went out of the store 100% right. There was a small issue with double charging for one item that was rectified over the phone and fixed up the next time I went in with a decent discount on a photography magazine.   What a great photography store! Every person I've spoken to at this place is really helpful. They are one of the few stores which stock hard to find items and their prices are always good. Matt helped me out with a component that I needed for my gimbal head when no store in the state of B& H, NY could. In future I will purchase all of my gear over the phone through these guys. I wish I lived a bit closer!

  A photographer's paradise. Expect a fat purse to become empty when you visit. A camera Disneyland that makes me feel like a kid again. The service is impeccable.   I have been purchasing photography equipment form 42nd Photo since 2016. The staff are very knowledgeable and pricing very competitive. There was a time, I thought I was going to save some money ordering some items from B&H or Amazon but after exchange, duty, etc it ended up costing more that what I would have paid, by shopping at a local business.   Very resourceful destination for a amateur or pro photographer. Has many professional quality on demand darkroom enlargers, chemistry, developing & processing tools, lightboxes, slide viewers etc. Has a self-service kiosk to print from usb/email possibly Memory Cards. Without knowing their hours went here to buy a Premium-Grade camera. It was closing time and they stayed open for me and showed me to a computer display to scroll through their inventory sorted by price or specifications. Was advised on a Darkroom Setup and archiving/storage for the equipment and the Shop Keep installed the assembly as it was very complicated to attach. Was very happy with the camera I purchased and the Prints I have had done here.

  After looking around for a Nikon Monarch 5 binocular. Seemed everywhere was back-ordered. I sent a message via email before heading to the store to confirm if had one. They answered within mins. Had 1 left and proceeded to process it for me. Once I went to pick it up was exceptional service. I have a friend and her son who also recommended them. As I'm a beginner in the hunting, the knowledge of everyone at this store was fantastic for me. Definitely will be shopping here again. It's worth the hour drive to support local establishments.

  Undoubtedly, the best service that I have ever received from a camera store! I live in the Michigan and it is rather difficult to get decent services up here. Being new to photography and having a spinal injury, sales have compassionately helped me out in selecting the proper lenses, filters, accessories and warranties on what will be my new hobby. They gave me insights such as insuring my camera and gear and were on top of communicating with me when my order had to be split up due to back orders. I’m ever grateful and will be keeping them as my primary camera store.
