  Consistently helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Always a pleasure. I've bought new and used equipment there, had cameras repaired and frequently have films developed and prints made through their instant printing and poster size services. A gem in New York.

  I visited 42nd Photo with a damaged Celestron telescope that I could not see anything out from. The friendly very knowledgeable staff not only repaired my telescope but gave me some great advice on imaging and general use. Fantastic customer service and I will be definitely going back for an upgrade soon.

  Excellent place for anyone who wishes to buy a cameras! Whether you have good knowledge or no knowledge on gear or unsure which one to buy, the guys at 42 sec photo are super knowledgeable and know everything about photo-video-graphy. I drove down from southeast Detroit to get some advice on my next upgradeable equipment and the guys (who's names I forgot, sorry) were really helpful!! Very honest and trusting people who want to make sure you get the right instrument for YOU. 42nd Photo is my go to place for all my camera needs! Excellent customer service and awesome range of products to buy from!

  I decided to get back into 42nd Photo after 2 years and thought I would give these guys my hard-earned cash as they have good reviews. I wasn't disappointed, I spoke to James who knows his stuff, he didnt try to sell me anything I didnt need, I had already done weeks of researching so I knew what I wanted, the one thing I thought I may want at a later date, he said I didn't need it so I will be buying all of my stuff from here. Mentioned which types of lenses I will need and I wasn't made to feel dumb or as if I was going to be ripped off, so very happy CUSTOMER

  Jonathan has been amazing! I have been getting back into star gazing after nearly 10 years away from the hobby. Jonathan has answered all my questions and delivered amazing customer service every step of the way. I have purchased 2 Refractors, a mount, and an array of accessories in the past year and all have been top notch! I highly recommend 42nd Photo for all your visual and astrophotography needs.

  I looked at 42nd Photo after having a most unpleasant expeirenece by B&H in New York. I purchased the new Fujifilm X-T4 which was in stock believe it or not and was in and out in less than an hour a very happy customer. I got a great deal on the package as well as some extra goodies. Jonathan and his wife were very helpful and I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again

  I first decided to take up long range photography in 2018. The camera I wanted I couldn't find in the city. But the Fujifilm website had a link to a wonderful store just south of the city (42nd Photo). I ordered my first camera from Jonathan and the response and delivery was fast and everything was packed securely. He has always been my go to guy for equipment.

  Great people and has a good inventory. Very knowledgable, open to discuss what a new amateur photographer is looking for in equipment . Trustworthy in only selling to new novice just what they need to get started keeping in mind the buyers budget limitations. When starting out this is the place to go, and if your experienced they have all you need to expand your hobby.

  They have a decent selection of telescopes, and a great assortment of eyepieces to choose from. I was intending to buy 2 eyepieces but as true enthusiasts, recommended that I only get one of them, as the other would more than likely not be useful for me. I really appreciated the honesty, making sure that I got the best item for my needs and budget, and not trying to oversell things. And even though they are a few dollars more than Amazon, the service, advice and experience of my visit justified the travel and price of the items bought. It's also nice to buy local whenever possible! In short, I will return to 42nd Photo, and also bring my kids who will love to see the big scopes, and likely to get some great advice from the staff too. Definitely recommend coming here for all your astronomy needs. Thanks again for the awesome hospitality and customer service.

  I find that the employees at 42nd Photo are very approachable, knowledgeable and proactive. Their competitors not so much...I find them to be condescending and untrustworthy at other stores to the point that you feel like they talk down to you for being a less experienced photographer. With 42nd Photo I feel welcome, comfortable asking any questions and they always give me an honest answer.

  Extremely approachable, knowledgable, and experienced staff/owners who have real skill and passion. This makes a world of difference when you're buying equipment you could own for a lifetime, and if you're used to the cold disconnect of ordering from large retailers like Amazon, you may not realize how important it is. They have actually used the products you're considering buying, and they even teach classes on imaging. They are there to provide real, invaluable assistance with your purchase decisions without pushing you to buy more than need. Anything they don't know, they know how to find out and will happily do so. They were pro-active in informing me about the timing of shipments and sent everything out on time. I've ordered from them several times; they've impressed me at every turn.

  The topmost camera store you can go to in New York. I don't frequently go camera shopping or buy lenses but the handful of times I have been to 42nd Photo, the staff have always been impressive. They are very knowledgeable and work to give you the best deal for your budget. The past two times I've visited this store Jones has been the employee I have interacted with and both times he has shown top level customer service. Definitely a great sales representative to deal with.

  I visited here to compare lenses and darkroom supplies I was considering for my Lab. We ended up speaking to the manager, who was extremely helpful, took his time and gave us a lot of helpful recommendations. Even though I didn’t end up buying anything today, I hope to go back when I’m sure of what I want thanks to the great customer service. Keep up the good work!

  My favourite, high-end camera store in the city! Every time I have come in they exceed my expectations. Super professional, incredible service, spacious parking, great selection and very reasonable prices. The staff are all photographers themselves and very knowledgeable. I’ve come in with what I thought was an irreparable lens and the technician fixed it quickly for me for FREE! I usually call them in advance with my order and when I arrive its ready with a smile. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would - I can not recommend them enough!

  Memorable experience! Jones is a very experienced and knowledgeable camera person who is willing to discuss and answer any question that you may have about specific camera equipment.   Prolific little shop for new/used, cameras, lenses and accessories. Picked up a superior ultra wide angle lens I've been searching for used for a few months, and found it here. The sales gave me a further discount on the lens when I got there, and I was even able to trade in my kit lens.

  I love this store and ended up buying a tripod for my Fujifilm! The price is very reasonable. I just took a little walk inside, I spotted more variety of Instax related products (more creative frames, album, light bulbs. etc.). The environment is very nice and relaxing! The staff are also very helpful

  I've been renting from 42nd Photo for over 2 years now and the team over there is congenial. Renting from them isn't just profit-taking, it's a relationship I've cemented with them and they actually care about having your camera & lense needs met. They've had my back for all of the projects I've shot and I would highly recommend them to anyone who doesn't want to be considered just a customer, but as family.   It's called A TOP STORE for a genuine reason. Really smart store, with a dark room studio in the back and a Fujifilm Authorized dealer/tech in the back! Canon,Panasonic,Nikon,Olympus,Sony cameras and lenses. Vast stock. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I'm going again! Stewart was a great guy!

  42ND PHOTO did an incredible job developing several decades-old rolls of film I had taken (and never processed) when I was a young lad on my Kodak camera. The app they use to enhance the images is amazing, given that the blemished images looked inexplicable. Absolutely professional store and service. Thank you!!

  A one-stop store for most of your camera and lenses, & products. The store is beautifully designed and products are displayed in a way that makes it accessible to view price tags and try some of them too. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They assisted me in choosing the most suitable microscope and slides for microbiology.

  Staff went out of their way from start to finish helping me get just the equipment I wanted, and staff was exceedingly knowledgeable about their products. Prices are very fair for what you get, and the camera&lenses quality is high. You can personalize picture size and put orders in remotely from your phone (with a software). You can make gift cards with photos in them too. The store premises is impeccably clean. I would definitely return to print photos again in the future.

  A breath of fresh air and sunshine! This family-run store is owned and operated by connoisseurs. It is primarily a place to go and print your digital photos, but they also offer a wide variety of Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Leica cameras for sale and rent. Innovative types and those who love the Instax photo cameras will infatuate the workstations that have been hired off so that you could craft superior quality photo gifts like cards or posters. If you happen to have a damaged camera, it is also the place to visit on the special day chosen every month for free camera cleaning and inspection. Those that rent high-end pro cameras and lenses can also rent and drop off gear at this location as well. The store staff is highly competent and professional, while maintaining a very hospitable atmosphere.

  Straight awesome! There is no photography experience store like this by any other camera store, and I'd love to see it polished up even more, to the point where it's almost a "must-see" destination and perhaps a hang point for the film-purists, print artist, X-series enthusiast, and even the Instagram hangout/Instax community. Wow! and the staff are always patient - I chill and talk shop with Stewart quite a bit, his having really guided me from considering to actually making the switch from Leica to actually doing it with fortitude, and talking shop over capuccino as we both still shoot 35mm for recreation and discuss Nikon vs. Canon etc. Sales department are equally as courteous, professional, and knowledgeable, and "get it." There's something really cool going on here, and I'd simply like to see it expanded in future incrementally w/ more gusto.

  I went there last week because they offered a camera and lens check and clean event for Nikon products. I really like this store, first of all, it's very cool. Great display of Nikon products, and a wonderful display of prints they offer. And by the way, my camera and lens are perfectly clean and clear, kudos to the tech staff. I will purchase from them, great selections of products, friendly and knowledgeable staff.

  Went in today to ask about an indelible scrawl line that had appeared down my camera lens. The owner checked it out, zeroed in the problem, and then removed the pet fur which had got caught on the inside of the camera body all for free. Very professional service and would definitely recommend.

  Ask camera aficionados where to shop and they’ll probably have one word for you: 42nd photo St. Thanks to owner Jonathan, a mainstay in the photo business for nearly 50 years, this super-emporium holds four overwhelming stories’ worth of all things imaging. Since it opened in 1956, 42nd photo has been known for its huge selection and savvy staffers—with some salespeople boasting several decades behind the register. Trying to get a question answered can be intimidating, what with the hordes of Industry techs and lighting gurus snatching up gear around you. If you’re not ready to play with the big boys, 42nd carry the vast stock but in a more low-key atmosphere.

  Founded in 1956, 42nd Photo occupies a modest storefront that gives off a nostalgic feel, from its narrow showroom to its retro signage. Staffers patiently instruct newbies on how to use a manual focus, or spend an hour explaining the differences between photographing birds and horses. Many experienced photogs got their first point-and-shoots from 42nd and still stock up on equipment here.

  Took our Fujifilm X-T3 to a repair place in Aberdeen while living there and it was diagnosed but could not be fixed due to not “having compatible parts,” took a month to get an update about fixing the lens. Moved from Aberdeen to New York and took it to another place, which sold me a new lens but the camera started having issues again a couple weeks later. Took it to this place as a last stop before purchasing a new one and knack yard! Took less than two weeks to have our camera back and it works like it is brand new! My wife and I are so pleased with their service and for rectifying the Root defect, which was not the lens. Thanks guys, we appreciate it!

  Excellent spot to purchase all you camera equipment. Came in for a lens and walked out with a Sigma lens 70-300mm . Steve was very helpful in answering all our questions.   A sprawling place for any photographers, movie makers, or anyone in between! This is the only shop that stands tall against the famed camera store B&H. The staff are helpful, and won't be following or pressuring you to make any purchases. Once you enter, there is a directory that will help guide you through the different floors.   I'm a customer of their online store on their website. I wanted to pair my Nikon D7500 DSLR camera to my telescope and after much research, I discovered I needed a T-ring adaptor mount for my camera. I was able to browse through their website with ease and find the various products available. I purchased a compatible T-ring adaptor and received an email from the company soon after advising me the item was out of stock and offered me an alternative product or a refund. I opted for the alternative and the company was very helpful in ensuring I was able to receive the alternative product. I received the product in the mail and I am extremely satisfied with the product. The item was packaged well with cardboard and bubble wrap and arrived to me safely. The T-ring mount fits perfectly onto my camera and telescope. I am impressed with the high quality of the item for a great price. The staff are friendly, communicative and happy to help with any issues. I'm so happy with this company and my item - thank you very much!   After a talk at my local camera clubhouse, I decided it was time to work out how to use the camera we've had sitting collecting dust for a number of years. Called these guys to see what I'd need in order to take photos using it. Craig was a wealth of knowledge and extremely helpful, on a Saturday afternoon with probably only 10 mins till closing time. Craig was exceptional in his service, was on the phone for a good half an hour, explained how to use it, what it was I needed, didn't try to sell me something I didn't ( I thought I needed an extra filter, Craig told me to try without initially and see how I go). Hard to find service like that these days!

I forgot to add the voucher number for the camera guide that they send for free, so gave them a call before my package arrived and asked if it was still time to add the guide, the man who answered said the camera had already been sent but they send the guide with no extra cost through express post.   I purchased a deep-sea underwater Nikon Z7 with clear resolution. 42nd Street gave me a shipping number the same day it was ordered. It arrived just 1 week later. This is unheard of for a American marine biology store. I do miss marine life stores with showrooms proper, but my first experience here has been very positive. Avoid Adorama at all costs. His biased advice is known throughout the hobby.

  If you want professional hands on experience from the staff go to 42nd, if you want pros selling gear, I even watched a demo about my camera and listened to tons of advice. Also attended a class. Decent experience, looking forward to a more in depth exposure class. As for prices, yes brick and mortar places have to charge a bit more than online. But I'm willing to pay the 10% to hold the camera in my hand and not search endlessly on web forums for info. Unless of course you don't support local business, in which case you can go fondle the cameras then make your purchase online but I think that's highly unethical. I buy a lot online, but buy local when I need that hands on experience.

  Having shopped in many camera stores, I find 42nd supreme in person - brick and mortar versus online - and my professional printing projects are one of them. Printing portraits for framed gifts at 42nd is much higher quality than what I get online and the help you get in the store to edit your photos is fantastic. I have made magnets to celebrate people and they spent an hour with me today designing a custom canvas picture that we all plan to sign.   Thrilled with the place as a beginner photographer. Prices are fair on most products and there are some good prices on commonly used stuff. Nice selection of cameras and lenses but this is where you have to be smart as you can find cheaper prices online.   I visited 42nd photo for a camera battery replacement which I purchased. But, within a few days, I received a call to inform me of this problem and a possible solution. I was asked if a different brand would be sufficient and out was less expensive, which meant they would gladly refund the difference.   They were very helpful. I waited until almost the last minute to get microphones and receivers for my Sony camera, so I thought I would be out of luck. They were out of mics, but they did have sheets of the film and they provided a template to make your own. The gentleman I spoke with mentioned that they really just want people to be safe, and he provided plenty of instruction on using the film.
