  Comprehensive photography shop with a wide spectrum of equipment. Great and quality choice. Provides fast and reliable camera and optics service. Employees are friendly and know the photo equipment and the problems associated with it. My recommendation. They have diagnosed a malfunction on my DSLR camera and fixed it up.

  Oh 42nd Photo, how I enjoy spending my money with you. As far as this store go, you know this is going to be a busy one, it's in the center of New York in one of the busier areas - so that shouldn't come as a surprise. The architecture is fantastic - they've melted stylish and modern sleek glass and wood with the ancient arches of the old building they merged their store with and the result is absolutely stunning. The staff is great, typical top level of care and service. Just expect to wait a few minutes during all but the quietest hours. And during the Christmas shopping season crowd surfing might be the only way to get somewhere.

  Really aesthetically pleasing store. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Went in to get my Leica Q battery replaced, this only took an hour which I felt was very reasonable timing given that it was a Saturday and the store was quite busy. Will return again if I need repairs.

  Excellent and impeccable repair for my Fujifilm Instant Mini 8. Which was completely refused by Fujifilm authorized dealer and trying to seek me to buy New camera and my Fuji is 2017 (Just 3 years old) Was looking for some good camera motherboard repair specialist and I found this. So Helpful and informative. If you're not sure how to use it? They've even got that covered. Top place for anything camera equipment serviceability. Excellent Service 👍

  I called 42nd Photo to inquire about beginner telescopes, especially Meade and Orion. James was upfront and honest with me, he dismissed my idea of a one-size-fits-all entry level Telescope. In the end, he advised me to consider a combination of modest price, versatility and hands-on practicality. Giving him the nod, I ordered a 6" Dobsonian-mounted Newtonian Reflector. In case you're in the market for a telescope, these guys will guide you in the right direction.

  Excellent service. I brought my Nikon D3300 to be repaired at 42nd Photo. The device was fully serviced and upgraded with Shutter and sensor. I have noticed immediately an improved performance. The staff was very prepared and very helpful.

  This store is a reliable kid of the block, 15 West 36th Street in New York City. That being said, it's a very fun and pleasant experience visiting. There are a good selection of Leica products available on show for people to play with. An artistic screen showing oeuvre from top photographers and detailing people how easy it is to take your skills a notch higher. A huge screen for taking advantage of iconic photography is a great interactive experience. And sometimes, if you're lucky, the staff will have the camera or equipment out which you are free to play with and create your own subscription account (or play hangman with them which I did when I visited!). The staff themselves are very friendly and helpful, willing to show and explain to you the products that top brands offer. Super quality second-hand gear and accessories, lenses and more. I just wish there was a bigger filming experience here.

  Went by this store to ask about the Rubber Eyecup Eyepiece Viewfinder for Nikon D7100. Though I'd bought the product in another country, the staffperson was fully attentive in listening and replied fully to my question. I was prepared to buy an accessory or similar if needed, however the agent solved my issue without needing anything else, just in adjusting the eyepieces properly. So, that's service above and beyond, in my eyes. Given that I depend daily on this great camera to give me silence to think and write, it was great to discover that the company and its people are at hand when needed, instead of being shuffled aside. So, thanks!!!

  I have shopped both at their physical store and online, it is as large as other big chain in the country, this is possibly one of the best stores of photographic equipment and ancillaries in the United States and Canada. The website / online store has a good selection of cameras and photographic supplies. For analog photography, beautiful film selection (prices could be more competitive), chemicals and other laboratory or image capture accessories (filters, etc.). Fast shipping within Notth America at a reasonable cost. From the times I picked up the product at the physical store, I found the employees very friendly, helpful and with in-depth knowledge of the kits and pro digital cameras, so I highly recommend it.

  Great! Not only is it the best photography store I know, it is undoubtedly the topmost online store I've never seen such a vast selection! The service is brilliant, I never waited more than ten seconds to answer my call, I don't know if it was by chance but it happened. The assistants are super friendly and informed, they don't mind spending long minutes on their phone to help arrange the product that best suits our needs! Orders arrive home 2 days after we place them! The site has thousands of products, for all prices and tastes, and as far as I know, if the product we want is out of stock, we can order it by email. In case of exchange or returns the system also works very well. In short, the times I ordered from 42nd Photo I was very satisfied, with nothing to complain about, and I recommend this store to all photography and video lovers! Now we just need to support more physical stores!

  A milestone in the evolution of photography for friendliness, sheer range of equipment and stock availability. Very good maintenance programs like sensor cleaning. The employee was super helpfull.   Finally a top quality store in our Mega City! (QUALITY 6 STARS) I arrived and saw the bustle of a Black Friday environment with droves of customers streaming in, I thought as soon as I was in the shop, I couldnt talk to their experts. This was too much for an amateur, but since I was there why not take a seat and wait for my turn and so I did ... I was speechless when I was attended by a professional by the name of James who gave me a semi professional course in a few minutes lest I would go with completely wrong ideas regarding the camera I was going to buy. I am completely happy to leave the store with a quality Lumix and very good service. I will always come back ...

  I had an electrical problem on a Nikon D60 and went to the Brand's representative in NY. Answer: No solution. But one employee suggested I try 42nd Photo. I went, and the malfunction was resolved by an employee at the shortest time. Right diagnosis: moisture had permeated interiorly, he opened the compartments and applied organic liquid to sluice down water outwards, he then bathed it out under direct sunlight. The camera came back to life. I thank Nikon's receptionist for the suggestion and promise never to set foot again! By the way, at the first opportunity I change my camera go-to. As for 42nd Photo, you've won a customer for life. Congratulations for the service, availability to listen to the customer, seriousness and professionalism !!!

  One of the best (of the few that still exists) amongst stores of first-rate camera equipment, camcorders and photographic supplies in New York. In digital photography they have a vast selection of products and accessories. In terms of materials for analogue photography (film, chemicals and accessories), the offer is limitlessly packed, they are rich in vintage stock and the prices are competitive when compared to other sellers online / outside NY, which is a bonus for New Yorkers like me, as I love to support more local trade. All in all, it remains a reference store for photography lovers in New York.

  Excellent service, I went to the store to try a feature-rich Nikon D3100 and was very well attended. The gentleman who answered me first even offered to charge a battery so I could toy with the camera. They gave me the freedom to insert my SD card and to test the cam at will. Unfortunately I have not finalized the purchase, but undoubtedly they deserve our business. 42nd Photo.

  Very big shop near the Herald sq! Here you can find anything that you wish to buy! We were there during the Black Friday sale and there was huge amount of people making a beeline for used to new stuff, a lot of Holy Grails for a good price with a chunk of enormous discounts!   Always courteous and friendly service - especially in the in-store photographic work. The machine on site is a heavy-duty workhorse, but nuanced requirements can only work in the dab hand of their well-trained employees. I have always been able to take home satisfying or outstanding photographic artwork, whether from analog or digital sources - sometimes in record time. Even with complications, the critical issues are discussed, professionally recorded, edited and improved. Color perception is still something very subjective. This requires people who are familiar with it. This is especially important if analogue films are printed or scanned because each film has its esoteric "color swirl". All in all, everything here is worth its price.

  I bought my digital SLR camera and now also ordered a better lens. Of course, I had done a little homework on the internet, looked at the prices, etc. If you just go into the shop and then wonder that it is more expensive than a business on the Internet, then this is certainly not your place :) I have both the camera and the lens each at the cheapest Amazon price - without much argument. I was very well advised and the sellers were kind. And when I go to a shop, I do not really expect that I get everything cheaper than on the Internet - but I expect expert advice - and I've always received in the 42nd Photo. I would go there anytime, because there I can take things in the hand and try - I cannot do that on the internet ...

  As pretty as a picture- this nice shop meets all your photography needs. The selection is large and there is enough choice for more professional users. Very welcoming staff also the most comprehensive where there are cameras, lenses and accessories of popular brands to find. It is also nice that there is still a considerable selection of analog cameras and related films. Of course, there is also the possibility to develop his films here and to have prints made.

  This is a really great shop. I was interested in a Sirui tripod. A lot of tripods from this brand are available in this shop. I was able to try everything and the staff was very friendly and gave me honest and good advice. I'm jovial with my pick!

  A very professional outfit for everything related to photography. I became aware of this shop through a photographer friend. The website is a smoothly navigable once you understand how to classify your products, you will find what you are looking in click. You quickly notice that this shop is more geared towards specialists. As a beginner, you may easily lose track of jargon. The staff on site can help you with that. Here I should say from my experience, they only retrieve what you need to achieve, if you buy online as it happens, you may end up buying additional equipment that you don't need.

  42nd Photo is the untrammeled optics retailer in NY. Great selection, insightful advice, there is much more than the usual standard. The price paid on the nail pales in comparison to the added value they've infused in their dealing. Here you can get pretty much on the subject of photography. Parking is abundant and can be used free of charge.

  Ample free parking in front of the shop, the most beautiful and largest photo shop in NY, large selection, fair prices, very good friendly and honest advice. They've a large second hand selection too, here I'm first advised .. and then given time to brainstorm, professional advice .. interestingly, you also get a good cup of coffee in hand .. also if I buy nothing, no snobbing..   I found a little by chance the 42nd Photo website. The price they offered for the product that interested me, it was significantly lower than anywhere else.   Today I bought a Canon EOS 5D Mak II from James and for this I moved to his shop to pick it up personally. The treatment and the good advice that it offers you are real.   Great advice and service. I am a semi-advanced user and went to 42nd Photo for the good comments on the web. James attended me very well and advised me fantastically considering my needs, he even advised me correctly knowing that he would lose money (such a person is not always found). With my purchase (a Meade LX90-8ACF) he gave me, among other things, a face-to-face sky observations course (with travel to my place of observation, valued at $180). Jonathan (the owner) is a person who knows amateur astronomy. I recommend watching stepping into the store or phoning. Last but not least, I've to say that their prices are very competitive. An asset to consider in the United States and even more if you live in New York. 100% recommended.

  There is nothing better in New York. For James' professionalism, it is always a pleasure to talk with him. It shows that he is a true fan of photography, not like many other stores that sell cameras, which is just that, they try to sell. Here James harnesses your passion for the hobby and recommends the best, according to your level and use that you are going to give it. They do not try to sell something that you will not use or take advantage of. Try to nurture yourself w/ passion, a hobby that they are there to help all understand what it is. You also have all the support of the videos uploaded to YouTube composing tutorials, manuals, courses, etc. It has a whole community around this world of Photography. As if that were not enough, he and several of his friends who are all very professional and expert, each in his area who give training courses, for those who want to start or continue learning.   I went in for astronomical image processing training and got exactly what I wanted in the shortest space of time possible. I was scrambling for years not knowing how to operate a telescope that they didn't even sell me and within 1/2 an hour I learned everything I needed to now and not once were they trying to sell me anything. Extremely knowledgeable salesman you won't find that on the Internet. I'm even thinking about buying an expensive advanced telescope from them that normally I would probably go on the Internet and actually I determined that their prices is just as good so I'd be crazy not to buy from them given the support I'll get.

  Met with Jonathan today to inquire about tripods and t-heads to support a Fujifilm X100 23mm F2 Single Focal length lens. Jonathan was very generous and truthful with his time. He illustrated two tripods and two heads each at different price points. While shoring up my camera, he clearly explained properties of all materials, pros vs. cons compared to lesser quality tripods and answered all my questions. A great resource. Jonathan made the buying process comfortable for me . As I told him "...you can't get this ( level of care ) from online business empires." Highly reccomended.

  Specialist local optics outlet, with plethora of inventory and very helpful and friendly staff. Went to the store with my wife for a new eyepiece and we needed filters and related maintenance equipment. Jim was our salesperson. Could not have been a more pleasant or successful trip. He quickly identified the ideal item for us and then spent 30+ minutes working with us on how to capitalize on the eyepiece, possible filters and assistance with programming our telescopes for optimal performance. All around a splendid experience.

  I came by today looking for an Olympus 50mm f/2.0 Telephoto Macro ED Lens for my OLYMPUS E-1, I could use for better macro photography. The sales guy I worked with was very knowledgable and helped me pick out the lens that would beat suit my specific equipment and my needs. They have a great selection of new and used accessories and I will be coming back again to purchase from them. I would recommend this place for anyone in the New York area needing any lenses advice and purchasing.

  Obliviously, I had been driving past this business for many years now and finally their sign caught my eye. I eventually decided to break out of my shell by stepping in for an impromptu visit. It's a very specialized optics store that carries everything from cameras, lenses, microscopes, binoculars, spotting scopes to telescopes etc. James helped me initially and was extremely friendly, honest and knowledgeable about their products. I ended up buying a Meade ETX90 Observer Maksutov Cassegrain Telescope, which price-wise ended up being nearly the same price as Amazon. Anyway, I highly recommend them and was happy that I finally made the stop. Thanks!

  Great store, customer service is high quality as well as gear. I spoke with James about second hand lens and he was very knowledgable and helpful. Definitely the coolest store I have visited in a long time. Nothing beats small privately run businesses. I'll be researching the models he showed me and when I'm ready to buy it will be from here. If you are looking for quality lenses I would strongly recommend paying this place a visit.

  After my Canon / Sigma incongruence, I left the world of DSLRs and completely stocked up with Fujifilm! What can I say! Peak functionality and I'm finally happy!   The shop is well sorted and the 42nd Photo team is very helpful and competent. There is also a nice selection of used equipment on site. Whether cameras, lenses or accessories - I like to browse through the display case. If you want to print photos yourself at home, 42nd Photo has very efficient, yet inexpensive ecosystem, paper for almost all applications. With some photos, high-quality paper makes the difference. I've only had good experiences so far and definitely give a thumbs up. Here's another tip: There is a good rental area to borrow (and test) high quality lenses, the rental prices are fine and the process is straightforward.

  After a well-attended phone call I went to the store to buy a small value item (my Fujifilm lens hood). I did not buy it yet, but it this review is to praise the technical quality of the customer attendant and the willingness to answer and clarify doubts, friendly and willing assistants.   I bought a Bader Solar Continuum. Unfortunately, that was not for me. I researched the internet and found that these filters would not be suitable for everyone. For whatever reason.
