  What a great tour! We had a weekend getaway planned and none of the 6 of us had ever been to Nashville. We hired Jenny C for our guide and what a job she did. It was a 1/2 day tour and she highlighted everything in Nashville. By the time we were done, we literally knew where we were, what area we were in and such a fun time. From the iconic Hermitage Hotel to the Municiple Auditorium, such fascinating stops. She was great and we could not recommend her more. Well worth the money!

  Jack is an amazing tour guide! The absolute best time I have had in China. When I return, I will definitely use Jack. He is very knowledgeable about the city and extremely smart, as he knew where to go for whatever I was looking for.   Jake was an excellent guide and began by giving us a brief history of Alabama, Montgomery and the Civil Rights events that happened there. He toured us in his comfy van, giving us lots of candid local information and narratives, and answering our questions enthusiastically. We came away with a different impression of Montgomery and a sobering take on the city's history. It was very worthwhile.

  Michael's hospitality & service were superlative. We had a very short visit to Xi'an & requested to fit in all tourist attractions. He planned & implemented our travel itinerary excellently. He also brought us to taste the flavours of Xi'an, which suited our palate. When I asked about fruits in season he went out of his way to get a bagful. I really appreciated how he took special care to pace the tours, without rushing us through. Michael is extremely knowledgeable and he patiently answered our questions. Michael brings out the best of Xi’an as he plans the itinerary well and gives us the historical information. Although we made a short visit to Xi’an, we felt that we have been introduced to the key places of interest and treated with warm hospitality by Michael. Kudos to Michael!

  Maria met our group right at the cruise ship dock. She was very friendly. She provided just the right amount of historical information, just hitting the highlights, but was able to fill in with more details when questioned. We saw all the highlights of the freedom trail in a combination walking/driving tour. Wonderful tour. Thanks Maria!

  Wonderfully informative tour with Luca! Best way to start a visit to a new city. We began with a slide show on Luca's iPad which prepared us well for what we were going to see. This tour gave us a good foundation for what we wanted to visit in depth, on our own later. At the end, Luca provided lists of restaurants, museums, churches and their days of operation. A great experience overall! Grazie, Luca!

  Gaelle was a wonderful guide and provided exactly what we wanted which was to ground our visit to Lille with its basic history and also get an orientation. We will definitely use toursbylocals again. There is no question that the tour enriched the experience of visiting Lille.

  Having Young as our expert tour guide was the absolute highlight of our trip. His knowledge of Seoul's history is extensive and he speaks so passionately of his home city that you can tell he truly loves it. He seamlessly combined the elements of his tour with our personal requests in a way that was educational, exhilarating and so much fun. Young worked hard as our guide, driver, host and photographer and was always friendly, kind and genuine. It felt like we were hanging out with a long time friend. We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our time with Young and we will remember it for a long, long time.

  Five stars seems inadequate to describe how outstanding our experience was today with Rem here in Seattle. Not sure where to begin but the communication prior to pick-up was timely and professional, the Mercedes car was clean and comfortable, Rem's knowledge of the area was exceptional... and on and on. Rem listened well to our preferences at the start of the trip and tailored the tour to meet and exceed our expectations. We've been on many tours over the years and this on rates in the top tier.

  This half-day walking tour of Palermo was fantastic -- as was our tour guide, Claudia P. She is not only incredibly knowledgeable about this historically rich and fascinating city, but she had curated our many stops and routes so skillfully that we were able to absolutely see and experience as much of the city as possible in the allotted time period. Our group of six adults uniformly found this entire tour to be tremendously informative, interesting, interactive -- and a tremendous value!

  Nathan was a wonderful, kind, thoughtful and knowledgable guide. He did an amazing job tailoring our experience to celebrate my mom's 80th and ensuring we got to see the key sites. He offered so much information and interesting history about the sites we visited that I gained a whole new insight into the country, despite previous visits. I highly recommend Nathan and will use his services on my next visit. Additionally, the van was nice, clean, cool and comfortable.

  Priscilla was amazing! She made us feel comfortable, prepared, and safe as we travelled with her to Tortuguero, and showed us things as only a real local would be able to. She is clearly dedicated to making sure that people learn things about Costa Rica, ecology (and maybe even ourselves) while traveling with her. Would 100% recommend her, in particular for an experience in Tortuguero where her family has lived for generations. Priscilla gave us more than we expected on this trip.

  Mehmet is an energetic, pleasant fountain of information! He has traveled extensively and can discuss and compare cultures. My husband and I toured Istanbul for two days with Mehmet and were very pleased with the highlights he chose, his organization of our time, and our conversations. I strongly recommend him for tours and for his advice on shopping and restaurants.

  Anil was excellent. She guided us easily thru the rabbit warren of streets in Istanbul. She showed us the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, the palace and the grand bazaar. We highly recommend her. I’ve used Tours by Locals in the States too and they were good. I will certainly use them in future travels.

  A great day with Luis touring the Algarve. We appreciated Luis's flexibility as he happily adjusted the places we visited after a better understanding of what we were most interested in. We saw some amazing views of the coastline.

  Vito is an amazing tour guide! I would highly recommend you book a tour with Vito as soon as you arrive in Matera… we had a 3 hour walking tour in the late afternoon and it was a perfect time. Vito is incredibly knowledgeable and his love for the area is obvious… sharing stories of the multi generations of family that lived in Matera helped us truly understand the hardship and beauty of this incredible city. We were also thrilled to see the wine cave owned by Vito's family …. You should 100% book Vito!

  Javier was an excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the buildings, monuments and artwork of Segovia. He was very kind to take some picture of us. We will be using one of the photos, as our family Christmas card. He gave us some excellent recommendations for dining. We were very pleased with Javier as a tour guide. We made the right choice in using a tour guide versus exploring Segovia on our own. Javier's knowledge helped make our last day in Spain more enjoyable.

  Six stars. Wonderful tour that takes you places no tour bus ever could. Jack's knowledge of The Beatles and Liverpool is impressive. We enjoyed the tour immensely, including the unexpected visit to the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. Just incredible. Thank you Jack for going above and beyond to give us a wonderful day and new appreciation of the beautiful city of Liverpool. Just wish we had scheduled an overnight. One day isn't enough for this vibrant city.

  Simo was the PERFECT guide to the Souks of Marrakech! His pace was just right. He showed us a good cross section of the markets, told us how to distinguish the local merchants from the "touristy" shops, helped us understand and negotiate what were reasonable prices, taught us a bit of Moroccan history, and shared Moroccan culture with us. He was so very kind. We want to return to Marrakech!

  We had an excellent day exploring the area between Tel Aviv and Haifa. Zohar was knowledgeable about EVERYTHING we saw along the way. He could discuss the events occurring throughout many layers of history from ancient times, Byzantine era, Middle Ages and up to the modern era and the creation of Israel. It was obvious that he loved showing me his country.

  Because of Belfast's bloody sectarian history, I've felt no inclination to visit the city or N. Ireland. Even as a U.S. citizen, it felt too personal (my mom was Catholic, my dad Protestant.) As it was a port of call on our cruise itinerary, this full day tour fit the bill of seeing as much as possible. Kieron made that happen and did so in a way that showed pride of country, and hope for a better future. In our travels we have had many excellent tour guides but he stands out as the best we've ever had..

  Pierre provided a very historical and cultural tour of Old Montreal. We learned about its rich history from its founding thru its transition/decline in 1960s to its revival in 1990s. Even learned some US history--as US Army occupied Montreal in 1775-76

  The tour was amazing! Francis lived through the Troubles, was happy to answer any question I had, and treated me to a complete picture of Belfast's history. The tour included perspectives from both sides of the Troubles and visits to the sites of significant moments that helped shape today's Belfast. If you want to learn about Belfast, this is the tour for you.

  I booked this English language tour at the last minute (the day before) with Gaelle. She was very prompt and efficient in responding and this set the tone for the tour. Gaelle was very accomodating and easy to deal with. She is very knowledgeable (history and geography particularly) and my short walking tour was a pleasure. I learned a lot in the company of a friendly Lillois. Parfait.

  This was a wonderful tour which gave us the opportunity to see as much of Mykonos in our time allotted as possible! Ervin was the perfect host and had the perfect timing to see the highlights before the crowds arrived. He offered a fantastic lunch suggestion which for local Greek cuisine! Highly recommend!!

  Our tour with Federica was fantastic! She met us at our hotel and even arrived a little early. She was super friendly and her English was perfect. The tour itself was wonderful - she led us all over the centro storico and included tons of interesting anecdotes and historical information. Her knowledge was really impressive! She had answers to all of our questions and even provided useful parking and sightseeing information for our upcoming trip to Ostuni. I highly recommend Federica for your Lecce tour!

  We can't say enough good things about Valentina from Tours by Locals. Before our trip she made multiple phone calls to the Termini Immerese municipality to ask for the copies of the birth certificates of our relatives. At the municipality we received certified copies of my grandparents birth and marriage certificates. We then went to the cemetery and walked around Termini Immerse and had lunch on the water. Valentina & driver Dario were awesome! We would recommend her as a tour guide

  We had a great tour with Maria. She changed up our tour and did Salem first, which worked really well with the higher volume of tourists in October. Very informative and an easy going pace. Then we returned to Boston for lots of history. I know we won't remember it all until we google something and remember her telling us about it! Maria worked with us as we needed to be picked up at one motel and dropped off at a different motel, we very much appreciated that. Thanks Maria, awesome tour!

  Issam was delightful! I only had a few hours in Casablanca, and Isaam took me all around the city to thoughtful spots. He said he didn't want me to feel like I was with a guide and he succeeded -- I felt like I was with a friend! I'm already planning my trip back.

  We were Americans, six in total, all late sixties early seventies. We spent two days with Mehmet touring Istanbul. Not only did we see all the major sites over the two days, we enjoyed Mehmet's company and learning about the people and culture of Turkey. He had lunch with us both days so we enjoyed conversation and his reflections on what we were seeing. After the two days we left with respect and admiration for the Turkish people and its history. Mehmet let us rearrange days and I highly recommend him

  The tour by Mike was awesome. We learned so much and the stories he told made it all very real. I would highly recommend doing this tour. It worked well for both the history buffs and the not as much history buffs on the trip. Worth every penny!

  We had an amazing tour with Sharon. She shared so much information with us from the minute we got in the car with her to drive to the first sight until she dropped us back off. We were traveling with huge WWII buffs & they learned many new things & felt all their questions were thoroughly answered. It was a great tour that gave meaningful context to the area~ why it had been chosen by Hitler, & how it's beauty was used to support Hitler's propaganda.

  Had an excellent experience with Valentine. Very friendly and great knowledge of history and the local region. We were able to customize our tour to see Chambord, Chateau Royal Amboise, and Chateau De Chenonceau. We had a separate driver for the tour who was very knowledgeable in the local wine culture which was a wonderful surprise. Valentine helped us with dinner reservations and found us a very nice hotel. Highly recommend.

  Ervin is a WONDERFUL tour guide! We enjoyed his stories, his knowledge of the island and his company. He is easy going, flexible and likes to make sure we don't get stuck in the big tour crowds. He showed us so much of the island and brought us to great local places. When he dropped us off at the end of the tour, we were actually sad to say good-bye. There were 4 of us on the tour and each of us would HIGHLY recommend him as your tour guide in Mykonos.

  What a tour of Istanbul . Not only was Dilek delightfully knowledgeable about all the various sites, but we spent a great portion of the day ( at our request) seeing the REAL Turkey, that was above and beyond the normal tourist itinerary. Travelled to the Asian side as well, to experience the best of markets, and daily street life in the real non tourist parts of Istanbul. A fantastic friendly guide that can custom tailor the tour to your liking. Highly recommend Dilek, and we will be sure to pass her on to family.

  Raphael was OUTSTANDING!!!!!! One of the best guides we've ever had in any city, on any continent. He was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable (a phd) and engaging…full of stories and interesting perspectives on the history of Berlin and the political and social dynamics impacting the city's history. We were on a tight time schedule and he kept us moving so we didn't miss a thing. Can't say enough good things about this terrific young man. Highly recommended!!!!!

  We had a wonderful day with Nima! He had a nice van to accommodate our private tour and was very knowledgeable about the area as he described the history and the current details of Victoria. His van was very comfortable - especially as we had one in our group who had some difficulty walking. He even pushed him around Butchart Gardens in a wheelchair which made our entire experience even more wonderful. We can't say enough great things about Nima. He'll make your day in Victoria!

  Maila was wonderful! She made sure that we saw all that St John has to offer. She was friendly, informative and a very good driver. There were 6 of us on the tour and all were in agreement that this was the best tour of our 9 day cruise. We had a delicious lunch at a seaside restaurant, got to walk on the ocean floor in the sea caves and saw the river switch direction as the tide rose over 40 feet. It was a great day. I highly recommend a tour with Maila…she is the best…you will not be disappointed.

  Before booking the tour, I contacted Olga for some clarifications. Her replies were quick and to the point. This made me decide to proceed with the tour. On the day of tour, Olga arrived at the meeting point early. Since it was our first day in Vilnius, she gave us a quick tour around Old Town and areas that were not easily accessible by foot before proceeding to Trakai. Olga's explanations were detailed and easy to understand. She also provided suggestions on interesting things to do during our stay.

  Umit is an incredible guide. He was kind, patient, conversational and fun. The first day was our walking tour. It was just my husband and I. We saw everything we wanted to see in historical Istanbul. Great lunch stop too! Day 2 we were joined by relatives and friends. This day we traveled by van and ferry. Umit took us to an area without tourists for lunch. He kept care of us - kept track of us and made sure we had an authentic experience. He moved us through the lines and sea of people with ease.

  Angela was a wonderful guide. As a former taxi driver and native to the area, she knew all the interesting and fun areas of the city. She was open to our suggestions and deviated from what she normally would have shown visitors to let us see things we particularly wanted to see. Definitely a great tour.

  Our tour was fantastic! Who better to show you around Boston than a born and bred Bostonian who's a retired history teacher. Neil was wonderful. We learned so much history and accurate history! Neil is so passionate about his city that you become passionate too. He kept us in stitches the entire tour. Don't hesitate booking Neil if you want to learn a lot and have a fun time while doing it.   Great tour. Mary's knowledge of Charleston is extensive and deep. Her delivery of information was clear and very interesting with many personal anecdotes that are relative given her long history and association with the city. She has a great personality and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour. I highly recommend her to take you on a tour of Charleston—you won't be disappointed.

  Paola is passionate about Trieste, past and present, and eruditely shared with us her knowledge and insight, making our tour incredibly special. We sat and talked, walked and talked, and took a taxi here and there. Paola adapted the tour to include sights of special interest to my 90 year old British Army veteran father. Paola's understanding of the literary, religious and political history of Italy and Europe enriched our experience and appreciation of the diversity and multi cultural nature of Trieste

  We did a private tour with Valentine in September 2023. We booked her from the US and told her what we were interested in doing/seeing while in Loire Valley. Val was very responsive and made suggestions on what we should see on our tour. She was on-time to meet us and she is very easy to talk to. She has so much knowledge about the area but mostly we were at the Chateaus Chambord and Chenonceau. She took us to a nice place to have lunch and also gave us a tour of Blois. Our day with her was great.

  A wonderful day touring the Bay of Fundy with Maila. She was very knowledgeable and gave us detailed information throughout the tour. We enjoyed an excellent lunch stop. She skillfully ensured we avoided the crowds as much as possible. Would definitely recommend her as a tour guide for this part of Canada.

  Shai was an excellent, knowledgeable guide. He guided us for a one full day private tour of Jerusalem, and provided us with an immersive learning experience, as we were able to focus on the Scriptures from a geographic perspective and through the linguistical roots of the names of several places, as they relate to the understanding of the Scriptures. Shai was very professional, and he also introduced us to several very interesting people as we experienced Jerusalem's cultural richness.

  We had a wonderful day around the Ring of Kerry with Muiris. He was knowledgable and it took so much stress off to have a driver on those small roads to get to the best lookouts. We traveled around Ireland for 10 days and this tour was definitely one of our biggest highlights. The van was very comfortable for our family of 5 as well.

  Our tour with Miguel was absolutely fantastic. He is the best! Miguel is so very knowledgeable and experienced. He customized our time with him to meet our every specific desires and wants. He treated us with great respect and friendliness. Miguel knows everything there is to know about Porto and the surrounding neighborhoods. The local village seafood restaurant that he found for us was an absolute gem. He thoughtfully answered all of our questions, both the serious questions, and the silly ones.

  Thanks to Patrik, I have a greater understanding of the history and culture of Brno and this part if the Czech Republic. He promptly responded to my questions before the tour date.   Exceptional tour of the Normandy sites and points of interest. The way Graham laid out the tour clearly showed us perspectives from all sides of the conflict with references to films and books along the way. As a historian Graham is top notch on his information and also proved himself to be a skilled educator to help us understand.   I actually wanted to have 4 stars out of 5. The reason was in my private comment to the guide, which is copied to you as well, as I understand. The reason: Everything was perfect, the guide was excellent, the drawback is the limitation of public comments to only 510 characters, I was very much surprised by this.   You could not find a better guide for a tapas/wine tour than Iker. He's fun, relaxed, smart, and has thorough knowledge of all things San Sebastian and beyond. Everyone in town seems to know him on the streets. He took us to local hangouts to get the best tapas in town, as well as to a sweet wine bar right outside of the old town. He also helped with recommendations for the Rioja region and surroundings, all of which were stellar. He's a magnificent guide and I can't recommend highly enough.

  Excellent guide. Very professional, knowledgeable and responsive guide. Gave a very even handed presentation of regarding the "troubles" and current condition in Belfast. We hit all the sites our group wanted to see and he added a great site based on his preservations of my interests. That turned out to be a tour highlight for all of us. I would recommend this guide without reservations based on his presentation, knowledge and value for the money.

  Ricardo is a wonderful, warm and caring tour guide (very attentive to our requests) We asked for a unique, not cookie cutter tour and he didn't disappoint. We visited his home town, met with a sommelier, tasted a great selection of wine as we learned about the region. We then went to a lookout area. Lunch was at the local Cafe with traditional foods. What a nice surprise to visit a local vineyard for a quick tour and tasting. Ricardo exceeded our expectations and made it a great day for all. Thank you!

  I've taken many tours and Leticia is by far the best guide I've ever had. She was attentive, informative, kind, humorous, and really connected with me and my family in a way that felt like she was an old friend sharing her love and knowledge of Segovia. She brought the history and culture of Segovia alive while also making us a part of it in a very intimate, familial way. We experienced Segovia with a true local who clearly adores her beautiful town and all its wonders. Thank you Leticia!

  Quite simply, Gerard Scott made our Blarney Castle / Kinsale excursion. He met us at the Regal Princess and quickly got our group of six to Blarney Castle. We beat the tour buses and three of us got right inside the castle to kiss the stone. My wife is severly limited in her walking so we use a travel wheelchair. While I went up to kiss the stone, he gave her a tour of the grounds and was waiting when the rest of us finished. All during the tour he provided great history about the area. Book Gerard!

  We had a wonderful morning in Bari with Giorgio. We did the obligatory raw seafood tasting in the port, which was great, but the tour only got better from there. Giorgio is one of the best tour guides I've ever engaged with. Instead of just spewing non stop facts, he tells stories and gives you insights into the culture and the people of the area. I will definitely book with him again if I return to Puglia.

  From the time Peter picked us up until he delivered us to our hotel in London, everything was taken care of. His fantastic driving skills allowed for sites we planned as well as going off the beaten path for some really unique experiences. His wonderful story telling, knowledge of history and sense of humor combined with his unique background and experience fit well with us and allowed us a flexible and entertaining adventure where we ended up feeling like we were traveling with a trusted old friend.

  Niki was an excellent guide for the Olympic buildings and museum. She skillfully explained the history and purpose of every Olympic building. She helped us understand the awe inspired by the 40 foot tall statue of Zeus. With Niki as our guide, we could catch a glimpse of what it would have been like to attend the original Olympics. She skillfully led us through the museum explaining the stories behind the artifacts held there including the statue of Hermes and the statues from the Temple of Zeus.

  The tour was just perfect. Miriam was the perfect host to introduce us to her home, Piran. She was well informed as to the history of the city, and as we walked she shared all of it with us. We loved that she asked for our input every step of the way as to what we wanted to do, after giving options. She's a warm, friendly, smart woman who made our tour meaningful and memorable.

  Mate was a truly excellent guide. I wanted to photograph the older parts of the city. The parts that hadn't been renovated yet. I forwarded him examples of photos that I found online. He was able to take me to those areas. Along the way Mate told me about the history and culture of Georgia, in a way that was truly fascinating. During lunch we talked about Georgian food and the unique nature of Georgian wine. If I could give Mate a score of 10 stars, I would!

  I highly recommend Metin for a local guide in Istanbul. He has such amazing energy & it would be very difficult not to have the best day ever with him. He picked up on our vibe immediately & customized our tour to exactly what we wanted plus he introduced us to hidden gems we never would have discovered on our own. Metin's love of Istanbul & his excitement to share it with his guests really made this a truly unique & wonderful experience. I hope to return one day & Metin will 100% be my guide!!

  Elizabeth was a very good host. She listened to what we wanted to do in our time together and did her best to accommodate our wishes. We wanted to get some good photographs while staying in Victoria and Elizabeth showed us a wonderful cemetery complete with its own small herd of deer. We would never have discovered it ourselves and we went back several times later. She was very knowledgeable and gave us good tips about where to eat. Elizabeth was easy to get on with and a good driver.

  When looking for interesting architecture tours for our visit to Chicago, we were excited to find Colm's Louis Sullivan tour. It far exceeded our expectations. Colm enlightened us on all things Sullivan and his unique connection to Chicago. Being an architect, and a huge Frank Lloyd Wright fan, it was interesting to get a window into Wright's early work, while apprenticing for Sullivan. Colm's knowledge of Sullivan is amazing. We highly recommend this unique tour of some beautiful buildings.

  If your reason for visiting the DMZ is just to see barbed wire, go into a tunnel and see a propaganda video, then don't bother with Chris; much cheaper to take a group tour. But if you want to learn about the real reasons the DMZ exists and how Korea ended up being split into two parts; if you are ready for an intensive lesson of five hours about Korean history going back 5000 years, then Chris is your man. After the tour I was exhilarated, and exhausted, but Wow! was it worth it. Thanks, Chris!

  We came to Israel to visit all of its religious sites. We had the pleasure of having Ramzi as our tour guide for Bethlehem. From the moment I booked my tour with him, he immediately reached out personally to introduce himself, which I found so welcoming. Ramzi has so much insight to offer on Bethlehem's history! Ramzi took his time to ensure we understood the significance of each religious site he took us to visit. He is such a kind, respectful, and thoughtful human being. He added value to our trip!

  Erkan Z was great ! She picked us up at the cruise port and we went to Ephesus. Along the way she shared tons of info on the history of Turkey and the area. While we walked through Ephesus she shared even more info and knew all of the best photo spots for family photos. She was a pleasure to be with. Highly recommend her for your visits to Kusidasi.

  Darrin is an amazing guide! We quietly explored many well managed and easy to trek trails. We saw tons of wildlife including the elusive platypus. We visited waterfalls and curtain fig trees. While we didn't see cassowaries, we did hear larger creatures in forest near us from time to time. We were able to capture vibrant rainforest audio tracks and Darrin made sure there was plenty of photo opportunities. Darrin is very knowledgeable and a wonderful person with whom to spend a couple of days. Book today!

  I highly recommend Juan's tour of Jewish Toledo. Juan is an exceptional tour guide, well versed in the history of Spain and the context of medieval Toledo's Jewish community from arrival to expulsion. As we walked through the streets of Toledo, he painted an unforgettable picture of the community. He guided us from through the Medieval Jewish quarter with stops at the Tránsito Synagogue, Santa María la Blanca Synagogue and finishing at the Sephardic Museum. Thank you, Juan!

  Khoa helped make our stay in Vietnam particularly memorably. We only had a short amount of time in Ho Chi Minh City but Khoa tailored a tour to our needs and showed us a spectrum of life in the city. Communication before the tour and the transport arrangements were both excellent and helped make the tour really special. We would have no hesitation in recommending Khoa.

  Our entire day with Paudie was outstanding! He took us to more picture perfect destinations than we would have thought possible in one day with the perfect amount of stops for photos, stretch our legs, walk a bit and stop for a marvelous lunch. Paudie's love of Ireland is clearly genuine and his knowledge of history and details about literally everything we saw made for a most memorable and pleasant day. His van was super comfy— We will definitely book with Paudie again!
