  I booked the trip for my cousin and aunt who were visiting Malaysia. I chose Doris as she was the most accommodating & flexible of the guides i contacted at the last minute. Their comments were that Doris was an absolute pleasure. She came well prepared and followed instructions very well. Her side by side historical commentary on Malacca was very insightful. We found her thoroughly professional and will surely book her services again.

  Yasin K. is a very knowledge guide who is well organized and articulate. He took us all over Istanbul. He speaks English clearly and has a lot of information about Istanbul's history and religions. He took us to 2 good restaurants for lunch, one had a great view of the city. He maximizes your sightseeing experience by using his transit pass, so you don't have to wait in line for tickets. (We repaid him.) He picked us up at our hotel and took us back at the end of each day. HIghly recommend Yasin K.

  Gaby is great. When she found out our flight into Ushuaia was delayed until 3a, the day before we had a tour scheduled with her, she offered to pick us up at the airport. Since we came in so late she told us to text her when we were ready in the morning for our tour, which was originally scheduled for 8a. We texted at 10:30a and she came right over. She was very informative about the City of Ushuaia, the surrounding area, the wildlife and the fauna. We would highly recommend her for your next tour.

  Fabulous day touring the northwest of Madeira with Valdemar. We saw the most gorgeous places, ate amazing tasty local food and drink. Val was brilliant, great company, full of knowledge and he adapted the tour to accommodate limited mobility. We cannot recommend Val and his tours highly enough. Perfection Obrigada Val

  Lyndal’s Sydney tour was wonderful! She told us interesting stories all along the route and gave us the knowledge that only a long-term local could offer. After her tour, we feel we have an excellent appreciation of this beautiful city. She and our driver Roland recommended several spots for meals, and she honored our request to take us to an aboriginal art gallery, which was fantastic!

  We traveled to Basel, Switzerland. Our guide Cynthia met us at our hotel and was sitting in the reception area as we entered the room. She was welcoming, I.D.'d herself with her badge and asked us good questions regarding our expectations. Due to a leg injury, I had asked to take trams as much as possible. She showed us magnificent details at the Basel government building, pointed out the purpose of the figurines, and showed a depth of knowledge. This pattern was repeated time and time again as we rode and walked to important historical places. I will definitely use Tours by Locals again.

  Bob is knowledgeable, charming and has a nice sense of timing. His communication before during and after the tour was impeccable. He arrived early for our pickup and had the car ready for our tour. We met and headed north to see the neighborhood's of the North Shore. Bob has both historic knowledge and personal antidotes about the places you visit. He is a member of many of the institutions that make the story telling interesting. I can't recall an easier more enjoyable, educational outing.

  My wife and I had a great tour with Nathan. Being from Soweto he was able to explain the history of Soweto, living through Apartheid as a teenager and the various nuances and complexity of a town made of various townships line Soweto. Open to any questions he will also have you meet and visit neighbours living in Soweto for a fully immersed experience. Thank you Nathan.

  David was our guide for the day in December when he took us to three reserves in the Mindo cloudforest region near Quito. He was an excellent guide - incredibly knowledgable about the flora and fauna of Ecuador as well as geology and history. We learnt so much and enjoyed getting close to many beautiful hummingbirds and other birds. David contacted us beforehand to work out what we wanted to include during our day and he was really good company. Couldn't have asked for more.

  Sebastian is an excellent guide. He is very knowledgeable, friendly and pleasant, and his English is perfect. We learned so much from him on our half day Quito tour, and recommend him very highly. In our time with him we learned so much about the history of Quito and of Ecuador. It was a perfect way to begin our visit!

  Our time with Luana on a cool December day in Ravenna was outstanding. From our meeting at the train station she expertly guided us through the wonderful sights on the tour, added expert insight to the history and culture of the region and time period and updated us on current events in the area. She included excellent restaurant suggestions and directions to enhance further our visit. Would book this tour again and strongly recommend this tour for a great Ravenna experience.

  We had an amazing holiday with Cesar on a two day custom tour of Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Valladolid, Tulum and Playa del Carmen. He is a certified guide, very knowledgeable and shared a lot of excellent information with us. He knows the area very well and enlightened us with so many tips that made our trip more enjoyable. He loves the Cancun area and enjoyed sharing many details with us. He found us beautiful restaurants and took us to great shopping areas. He is extremely perceptive and understood very quickly what we wanted. He made sure that all of us in our family of four (with varied interests) had activities to do that we all enjoyed. He is friendly and felt like family by the end of the tour. We recommend him very highly and wish him all the best!

  I took my sons on an Alaskan cruise for their college graduations and planned an excursion with Tom in Skagway. This was by far one of the best personal tours we have ever done! My sister joined us for the cruise and tour, and Tom was excellent. First, he was very prompt when I emailed him before the cruise. He reassured me that all would be well. He definitely came through for us on the tour. He engaged my adult sons in the topics in which they were most interested. Tom stopped at multiple highlights, brought binoculars so we could view mountain goats - which I do not know how he noted them driving! - and looked repeatedly for bears. We didn't see any bears, which was both a good and a bad thing, but we learned to recognize the skat! Tom really personalized the tour for us. He made us feel like friends. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND him for your guide.

  Our group of 6 from the US had a wonderful tour with Denizhan P. He was was amazing!   Ahmed was great from start to finish. We were traveling from the USA. Ahmed communicated quickly. Ahmed designed a custom tour for us to see the Valley of the Kings, Luxor Temple and many other ancient places. Ahmed is very knowledgeable & provided great details. We spent 2 weeks touring the Middle East. Ahmed’s tour was the highlight of our trip. I highly recommend Ahmed.

  Our two days in the Sacred Valley was the highlight of of our trip to Peru. His knowledge, passion and enthusiasm made the tour terrific. We asked if he would add something food related and he took to the home of a local family (his brother’s) where is sister-in-law cooked us a wonderful meal of Peruvian specialties! Don’t even think of hiring anyone but Bryan…you will not be disappointed!!

  We couldn't have been happier with the tour Asdrubel Torres gave us today. Besides taking us to the places we wanted to see, he virtually narrated the tour the entire time he was driving. He really knows his history of Panama and the cultural influences of the places we visited. He was polite and interested in us getting what we wanted from the tour. He was a good ambassador for Panama, yet willing to acknowledge some rough spots in its history. We strongly recommend his as a tour guide.

  My mother and I traveled by DownEaster Train to Boston for the weekend. Christian was kind enough to pick us up at North Station. We checked into our hotel and the tour began from there. We ended the tour at a restaurant that happened to be a favorite of our guide. He customized the tour to drive by my mom's first apartment in Boston nearly 50 years ago. It was a wonderful trip and I would recommend him to anyone. There were just the two of us but his vehicle could accommodate a larger family or group!

  Can't be more happy with Israel and his wife - Jennifer. Booked the Tequila tasting hacienda tour for our group of four adults. We were able to see a different side of Cozumel as locals with locals. They picked us up and brought us back before our cruise sailing time. We requested to extend the tour and he was happy to tailor it to what we wanted to do and see. Went to a tequila tasting, lunch, a brewery and sightseeing. Highly recommended! Thank you guys!

  We had a great tour of Gibraltar! From the time of the booking through the tour, everything was communicated promptly and the directions for the meeting spot were excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable, took us to all of the sites on the Rock. He always dropped us off at the entrance, was great at explaining where to go and where to meet up. We had a wonderful day learning the history of Gibraltar and would highly recommend this tour.

  The tour was brilliant. From the start, Rafaella quickly found 2 car seats when we checked if the tour was toddler friendly. She and her driver were very accommodating and understood how travelling with 2 under 3 years old could be handful. My eldest girl liked her so much and insisted to hold ber hands throughout the hike at the lake. I would definitely recommend organising a trip with her if you get the chance too! Super swift communication and lovely lady to make your trip memorable (:

  Thank you David for bringing us the tour throughout the day in the Brasov area. David is very knowledgeable about European history. The trip to Bran castle and the stories about Vlad the Impaler also the visit to the old town in Sighișoara can make us imagine what life would be like during the medieval era. David helps to explain and answered all questions we asked. He's punctual and informative and makes the trip fun and enjoyable.

  The itinerary was excellent. We saw flamingos, sea turtles, the beautiful Shete Boka National Park as well as Kenepa Grande beach. Our party of 8 were all very satisfied and loved the variety on the tour. Elton was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly. We chose Elton since we had taken a previous tour with him. We highly recommend Elton as a guide.

  Our five hour tour of Cordoba went by in no time. Carmen taught us to see, not just look – her knowledge, particularly (but not exclusively) of the Mezquita is encyclopedic but she employs it never for itself, but to explain what we were seeing. Her insights into details, architectural and otherwise, was extraordinary. We also toured through some of Cordoba’s many patios, learning about their histories and how they continue today, and saw the Alcazar, and gardens. She offered superb perspectives on the shifts in demography and architecture.

  Our half-day tour was perfect. Ramzi was waiting for us immediately after crossing through the checkpoint and we spent time at Nativity Church, the Milk Grotto and ate a wonderful lunch at the Banksy Walled Off Hotel. Ramzi showed great historical knowledgable of the sites visited and was very interesting to speak with. And he seemed to know everyone in Bethlehem...a great quality in a guide! If you have limited time, Ramzi is very flexible, and Bethlehem is an important addition to your trip.

  We had a wonderful tour with Ilker. He is friendly, knowledgeable and VERY accommodating. He tailor made the tour for us, taking us to sites we really wanted to see and opting out of sites that were of less interest. He also introduced to many delicious foods. We learned a lot about the culture and history of the wonderful people of Turkey, laughed a lot and made a good friend in Ilker! I would highly recommend him.

  Our White Truffle Hunting day with Stella was fabulous - and included so much more than the truffle hunt (which on its own would have rated 5 stars); we toured and tasted offerings from a Parmesano Reggiano dairy/shop, explored a cave, and were told many, facts, history, science and social details and information about all the points along the way. Stella went out of her way to offer specifics of interest to our little group; I would happily engage her again for any sort of tour.

  We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Griffith. He has a wealth of knowledge of all things to do with Belize. He gave us an indepth tour of Belize City and explained the various cultures and people that make the country so vibrant. Altun Ha was amazing and much more expansive and impressive than pictures portray. We got so much more out of the experience having our own experienced guide! The lunch provided was also authentic and very good. Would highly recommend this tour with Griffith.

  This was an absolute dream from start to finish. Jenny our guide was wonderful and so knowledgeable, She took the time to talk to us and more importantly to listen to us and then planned our day accordingly. Graceland was fantastic, then Sun Studio and then the Peabody Hotel to see the ducks. A tour of Beale Street and Memphis then back to Nashville.   I had the most incredible adventure with James. He gave me such an immersive experience of his world. The animal and plant interactions were unreal!! He gave me 4 days of constant adventure, excitement, fun, education and relaxation. Perfectly balanced and perfectly tailored. James has allowed me to experience the most intimate feeling of connectedness with nature and on such a profound level. I honestly cannot speak highly enough of James, as a guide, a business owner and as a friend. He's a legend!

  We had a great tour with Stan! We had 7 hours to kill on a layover at Frankfurt airport and Stan picked us up in his car for a 4-hour city tour. Stan has incredible knowledge of European history and gave us the full context of city landmarks and Frankfurt history. He's super friendly and humorous and we felt like we were just strolling with an old friend. We'd love to book him again when we have more time!

  Natalia was a fabulous tour guide. She provided the right amount of history and culture to give us a perfect knowledge base for this beautiful island. She and driver Bob picked us up at our hotel promptly on time and prepared us for the day! We absolutely saw every important site on the island and navigated the unpredictable rains successfully! We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. While it was a long day, we left knowing that we didn't miss a thing.

  We had an amazing day with Ted! He was very helpful in suggesting how our family should spend the day on Antigua, and it was even better than we imagined. Our ship was 30 minutes late docking and Ted patiently waited for us. He is a true ambasador of the island of Antigua, and is very proud of his island. We tasted local foods, learned so much about the island, had wonderful photo opportuites. Above all, Ted was most gracious and very knowledgeable. Book a tour with Ted - you'll have an amazing day!

  This was one of the BEST TOURS we have ever taken! The driver met us at the port and drove us the 2 hours to Granada where we met Gosia. She was fantastic and showed us the Alhambra and Gardens. Since she previously worked at the Alhambra, she could give us a perspective of the history and highlights that brought it alive for us. The pace was perfect and she was delightful! I would recommend this tour to everyone wanting a special experience at the Alhambra!

  I hired Ikue to take me to where my ancestors lived near Kumamoto. She obtained the Koseki for my grandmother, performed research to find information about my ancestors, and contacted a distant cousin to set up a meeting. Ikue handled all the details. It was a very special first-time meeting for me and my cousin. Ikue went above and beyond what I expected. She kept me informed of her progress and speaks and writes excellent English. I would use her services again and highly recommend her.

  Noura was a warm, friendly, experienced and knowledgeable guide. She took us on a fascinating tour of the souks and added lots of other interesting local information as well. This was our first visit to Marrakech and the souks so we could have been very overwhelmed, but Noura helped us feel more comfortable and confident and able to navigate our way around. We would highly recommend Noura for any tour.

  Wow, what an amazing day. If you prefer to avoid crowds, are looking for stunning scenery in locations that are only known to locals - this trip is for you. Val was wonderful, easy going, informative, and very accommodating. He truly enjoys his job and sharing his love of the island. This made for a fun, awe inspiring day. We generally prefer to explore new places on our own. However, it was great focus more on the scenery and not the winding roads. Highly recommend

  Maike spent a great deal of time ahead of booking helping us plan our day in Malaga because we were especially interested in the museums and also wanted to see the cathedral. We settled on a wonderful unique itinerary and it lived up to all our expectations.   Our family of 4 took a private tour of old Jerusalem with Adiel. We started at the Yaffa Gate and walked through all 4 quarters. We learned so much, Adiel is extremely knowledgeable and took his time to explain the history. We even had a few surprise stops at less visited locations and stopped for delicious fresh baked pita in the market. We enjoyed every minute!   Alessandro was the absolute best! I highly suggest booking a tour with him through Puglia! We had an amazing time in Alberobello, then to the olive oil tasting and lastly the dairy farm which was an unforgettable experience! He was knowledgeable, personable, and very hospitable!   We can't say enough great things about Cesar and his tour. He crafted a day-long custom tour that included Tulum archeological sites, swimming in Grand Cenote, lunch, shopping and beaches for me and my husband.   The trip to Papallacta was wonderful! The scenery & drive up to the park was beautiful. The hot springs were wonderful, with towel & locker rentals and a comfortable changing room. Lots to see around the area if you want to hike also. Elizabeth and her driver were very personable and knowledgeable about the flora & fauna of the area. She was very helpful explaining the spa & hot springs area and offering suggestions for our stay in Quito. Highly recommend!

  We were treated to a 3 day tour of Siem Reap and Angkor Wat by Tom. He was a delight to be with and always punctual. He also provides a nice and spacious Lexus car and driver who also gave us chilled water and a refreshing cool towel every time we stepped back into the cool car. Tom took us to the amazing lake villages and all the key temples and encouraged us to have lunch at a fabulous restaurant that was Michelin quality.   Istanbul is an amazing city, but for a first time visitor it can be confusing with so many sights, sounds, traffic, and language. Choosing Tours by Local and Semih to help us navigate made our one day stay interesting, magical, efficient, and so much more fun with a guide. Semih was very knowledgeable, willing to answer any questions, knew the best place for lunch and dinner, helped us use public transportation and went of his way to insure we had a great time in his town.   We give Laura five stars as she is a star. We were enchanted by her high spirits and love of her city of Toledo. With every Greco painting, Laura gave us context and could name every figure. She took us to her friends’ beautiful ceramic shop of tunnels where the Jews hid and prayed. Laura took us to the centerpiece of Toledo…the main cathedral and suggested we attend high mass on Sunday. We took her suggestion and were so glad we did. Most importantly Laura accommodated our need to practice Spanish with her. She was our Spanish teacher for half a day which was great fun. We think she is the Tesoro of Toledo.

A tour of Belfast was not on the original itinerary but when we asked if he could show us a bit of the city, he gave us an excellent tour with great explanations of today's way of life for citizens of Belfast.   I cannot imagine a better way to see Tangier than with Abdel as a guide. Abdel brought an educated, well-read and personal perspective to the tour and was very easy to relate to. He was attentive to our every need and anticipated exactly what we wanted to see and do.
