  Alessandro was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with. He was extremely accommodating, very knowledgeable, knew the locals and had good relations with them, often translating for me because of my lack of Italian. He knew the cultural and historical components as well as the natural. I was lucky to be on my own with him so I could ask many questions to which he gave thorough and interesting answers, always patient and always willing to go the extra distance in supporting my learning. Matera is beautiful.

  Robert has a wealth of knowledge with regards to the history of the island of Malta and there is a lot of history - dating back to before Stonehenge!. As a local he also brings the place alive with anecdotes and stories. He gives you a real sense of what it was like to grow up in Malta. He was, at all times, kind, courteous and with a good sense of humour. Another guide said we were lucky to have him. Indeed we were. We highly recommend Robert A for a taste of Malta. ============================

  We had the good fortune of connecting with David on our trip to Nashville. As first time visitors, we were interested in a general history including but not limited to slavery, civil rights, women's suffrage, history of country music, and of course food. I am confident there is no better representative of Nashville than David. He is just the loveliest person, a talented historian and offers deep knowledge and passion for his city. It is remarkable what we were able to learn together in 4 hours.

  Dirk, "Diego" is a great guide! He was knowledgeable and had great and funny anecdotes! He is patient as we are traveling with my parents and they are a bit old �� I recommend him as your local Ghent guide he shows you how he loves his home place very much!you will love it too!

  Gary was an excellent guide. He knows the Orkney's, the history and was able to debate the theories of the Neolithic period with our son. As Covid restrictions are ending in Scotland obtaining reservations to see the sites were challenging even for a local. Gary was able to quickly assess and build a plan that satisfied all in our group. He maximized the little time we had on the island. Our family highly recommends Gary.

  Our family booked this walking tour with Simona and it was excellent!!!!. She met us at the Port at the agreed time, walked to many important and main sites to visit in Stockolm, explaining every detail as we moved along. We only had a few hours to get a quick view of most significant places of the new and old city and she did a great job in doing that. Very knowledgeable guide. Highly recommended!!!!.

  I have just completed my 3 day tour of Istanbul with Hatice. It was fantastic and she was a wonderful guide - putting together a great itinerary that had lots of variety and with flexibility for my preferences. Hatice is really friendly and knowledgeable and a great companion. I strongly recommend visiting with her.

  For our Cinque Terra tour Marco stepped in last minute due to illness. He was the best guide we have used. He planned and Executed a schedule that worked with the time we had. He was so knowlegable funny and kind. In the field of tour guides he is a rock star. He has aided Rick Steves in hi coverage. The driver he used was excellent.

  Magical. Superb. Fascinating. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. Bruno was a fantastic tour guide. His knowledge of wine, the region, history and the entire area left us entertained and educated. I had requested that we see local vineyards and restaurants. Bruno took us to a superb small estate winery where we sampled many glasses of excellent port. We drove to a number of superb view points to take in the valley vistas. A local lunch was enjoyable. One more drink and then a river cruise. Bruno can customize the tour to your preferences. I suggest booking early as he seems to be in pretty high demand.

  An excellent tour of Bucaramanga with Alejandra. Just what I wanted to help me learn more about the different parts of the city, at a relaxed pace. Alejandra's knowledge of the city and its history made the tour a valuable and enjoyable way to get to know Bucaramanga. Also enjoyed the visit to the Santisimo statue. The cable car ride was outstanding, as was the view of the region from the top. Would highly recommend Alejandra to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and insight guide.

  Angela was a wonderful, informed, considerate guide. On a very hot day, she accommodated all our needs to stop, rest, move, etc. Her mini-lectures were highly informative. She has a great sense of humor as well, and offered many insights into Ravenna and the area beyond the historical material. The mosaics are incredible, and she helped us understand everything we were seeing. Highest recommendation.

  Due to the jubilee and being a Sunday many of the potteries were closed. Diane worked hard to arrange a tour for us at Middleport Burleigh Potteries. This was a wonderful tour very personalized. Diane was very friendly and we learned so much about the Stoke on Trent area from her. She also worked with me months in advance to arrange things. Highly recommend Diane!

  Michele did a wonderful job. His English and Italian are amazing. He made the day fun and followed our lead with what we wanted to spend time on. My son really wanted to go up in the tower of Pisa, and he gave us time for that. We really enjoyed our day with him. Would recommend him to all of our friends!

  We took an 11 night Mediterranean cruise which was port intensive. I had never used tours by locals before, but after reading reviews ended up booking seven different tours with six different guides. All the tours were excellent. While each guide has a different personality and cultures differ as well, we had a really good experience in each instance. The private tours really made the trip for us, particularly as compared to doing cruise line shore excursions with large groups. 100% worth the cost in every case. We will definitely be using tours by locals for our future travels.

  Jack did an outstanding job of sharing PEI with us. Communication was easy and helpful. He customized our day/tour to make sure we saw what was most important to us.   Our 5 family members booked the fairies and folklore excursion with John and it was THE highlight of our trip to Northern Ireland. He immersed us in the stunning beauty of the country. culture, folklore, and history.   Carlo was a great guide. We had agreed on an itinerary for the day. After talking a few minutes in the car, he made a suggestion to add an additional stop that he thought would interest me. He was right! I'd recommend Carlo to anyone who wants a knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide in Puglia.

  Christiana was a wonderful tour guide! She patiently answered all of our many questions about the mosaics and their history, and gave us many insights into the symbology and development of mosaic styles. She also recommended excellent restaurants for us to try. Starting our Ravenna visit with a tour by Christiana added immeasurably to our time there. I recommend her highly.

  What an amazing day out with an amazing tour guide. I have travelled the world and been on many organised tours but nothing has compared to this one. Peaches our tour guide was fantastic. Her knowledge and expertise was outstanding. We have already decided that we will return to Bangkok and would not hesitate in requesting her again for our future tours. Everything and more that we wanted in our short time here in this beautiful city.

  My husband and I visited Wales for the first time late May 2022. We were very fortunate to have Riki as our guide thru ToursByLocal. He was excellent. He had a great personality and was very knowledgeable of the areas he took us to. We spent the day tour on the outskirts of Cardiff. The countryside was beautiful (lots of sheep!). Riki had a great itinerary for us and we were not disappointed. He was our personal guide which made all the difference in the world. I would highly recommend Riki and ToursByLocal.

  Appreciated David's timely communication before the tour to ensure a desired customized experience. We were visiting the ancestral hometowns great-great grandparents immigrated from (so, out of the normal tourist destinations) and David made that possible. He gave excellent insight into the likely historical context for the ancestors based on features of where they came from. We also explored Lund, where he threw in details from attending the University there. Wonderful experience.

  We had a wonderful tour with Csaba and had the exact tour we wanted. Hiking at The Quiraing was a bucket list adventure and having a personal guide who had hiked it before was quite helpful. He even lent us walking sticks which made walking a bit easier for me since we don't have any hills at home.

  We had a group of 4 adults plus luggage. John arranged for a comfortable, larger van with great windows. He picked us up at the ship dock, delighted us with history, facts, stories and 6 hours of touring. He then dropped us off at the Peabody Hotel. John took us to the Lorraine Motel, Sun City recording studio, to Gus's for world famous fried chicken, cemeteries and garden mansions. If I could give him 10 gold stars, I would. Carol Fell

  Cristiana is the ultimate guide: winsome & knowledgeable. She provides not just excellent information but is also very kind, being mindful of the limitations of attention spans and the requirements to rest. I brought my university group to Ravenna for an in-depth day with the mosaics--and Cristiana more than delivered. She gave a thorough and engaging presentation for each site, and she included a stop at a current workshop to see the technique used in mosaic making. In addition, she shared the broader history of Ravenna as well as--because we are studying the Divine Comedy--Dante-specific information. We thoroughly enjoyed our day. You couldn't ask for a better guide! Highly recommended.

  A superb tour; ideal for anyone wanting to visit some of the important sites in Cork where Irish history unfolded whilst simultaneously enjoying some great scenic views. Alan provides very informed historical background information and is very adept at amending the tour to take account of any particular interest of participants. Highly recommended.

  Iggy gave us a delightful, informative and caring tour lasting over 5 hours, not only of Alesund but also the surrounding areas. We could not have been more pleased. He was fun company, informative and took us to out of way places in his car, that we really enjoyed. He is a pleasure to be with, and you get to see more outside of standard.

  We visited Auschwitz and the salt mines. We had a fantastic tour with Marta and her daughter Margaret. As we only had one day to explore Krakow more fully (silly mistake because the city is amazing), Marta had her work cut out for her. She made sure we saw as much as we could and Margaret was a great sport! Nothing was out of the question with these two. It was an unforgettable day.

  I can't say enough great things about Neslihan and our tour. She is a breath of fresh air, so enthusiastic, sweet, funny, and beyond knowledgeable. We saw all the sights, learned so much, and her personal life stories just added to educating us about the Turkish culture. When our tour ended and we wanted to take a river cruise she even escorted us to the marina, guided us to the correct boat, and helped us get our tickets. It felt like spending the day with a friend and I now have a friend in Istanbul.

  We did the Madeira Northwest tour with Valdemar and it was amazing. Valdemar is very knowledgeable, friendly and flexible. This tour was well worth it to experience the beauty and history of the island. With Valdemar as your guide you will truly experience a fun fill day. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see the island in all its beauty.

  We could not have asked for a better guide. Gary is personable, professional, engaging, communicative, adaptable, and a great ambassador for Israel. He is extremely astute when it comes to the world stage and we left the tour with a much stronger understanding of the area and the history. We would give him 6 stars if possible. Highly recommend!

  I wrote my travel agent this: If you know anyone who shows ANY interest in visiting the northern area of the Netherlands, send them to Jaap! We're already planning another visit. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. We learned and saw so much, and yet it was a relaxing and enjoyable time. My husband is a vet, and Jaap arranged a stop at a stable for Frisian horses. What personal attention! He prepared an extensive document on our trip that was full of helpful information. I can't rave enough!

  Sabrina was awesome! We used her for a family tour to Mont Saint Michel and the kids (11 and 14 yrs old) and myself for two other days of tours. She was so knowledgeable of the area with being from the region!! We enjoyed this trip so much thanks to Sabrina!!

  We had an outstanding tour. seeing a little of Copenhagen and the infamous mermaid. Our tour took us to Sweden. We visited Malmo and Lund. Our guide Gabrial recommended a fabulous restaurant with the best local cuisine. We went into the country to a Covent dated around 1020 AD. Wonderful place with one of the oldest trees in Sweden around 1000 years old. Spent time at their petting zoo. Wonderful outing.

  We had a terrific tour with Chris. His knowledge of Poland was impressive and his time management and tour organization was excellent. He took us to our ancestral home land and the sights around Krakow. His commentary makes me want to return and when I do I will most certainly seek his services. He was personable, attentive and thoroughly interesting in pointing out sights along the way with fascinating local stories. He far exceeded our expectations and provided a once in a lifetime 5 star experience.

  We spent two very full, fabulous days with the amazing Valdemar. This was possibly the best money we ever spent on a tour of any kind in all our extensive travels over many years. We toured in his open-top Jeep all around the island. We stayed mostly on back-roads that would in inaccessible by any other vehicle and avoided most other tourists. We saw a lot, learned a lot, and laughed a lot. Val knows every inch of the island and everything about its history. He gave 110%. He is the only guide to consider!

  Niki's enthusiasm for Crete and Greece is outstanding. Her knowledge provided us with a fabulous experience; much greater than what we would have experienced on our own. We all learned, laughed and had a great time at Knossos Palace and the museum. We would love to learn more from Niki next time we visit Crete. In addition, Niki shared that she has had a very positive experience with Tours By LOCALS. If we find ourselves elsewhere we would be happy to use Tours By LOCALS again.

  Constantinos is a genuine and knowledgeable guide who walked us through some incredible areas in Ana Poli. He explained in detail the history of the Monasteries we visited. The stops for local pastries and coffee was invigorating. The whole tour was at a good pace and not rushed. In fact he stayed back with us beyond the planned tour time helping us with local shopping at antique shops.

  Shurby was wonderful! Communication prior to the cruise with is wife was right on point and they were able to modify for us the 7 hours island tour with some different stops. Very friendly and informative!   Dilek was an outstanding guide. We spent two days touring with her and she was very knowledgeable, navigated the sites beautifully, and was so personable.   Daniel gave us a great tour. We were with him for 3 days and actually did 3 different tours. We saw Bath, Glastonbury, Wells and were treated to a trip through Cheddar and Cheddar Gorge after Wells. On our last day we went to Stonehenge, Salisbury and then on to London. Daniel was very knowledgeable about everywhere we went. He also assisted us in many places as I travel with a rollator walker and he knew just how to handle it.   In a city rich with history, intrigue, tragedy, restoration and pure grit, try to find a historical tour that doesn't include ghosts! Christine has it and she is the best! You won't find a better or more delightful tour guide. She is so well informed on her city (where she grew up and still lives). She gives a wonderful overview to what makes Galveston, Galveston. Excellent tips on things to do and where to eat and shop too. I highly recommend using Christine to learn about this unique and fascination city. If visiting, start with Christine!

  My husband, teen son, and I had a fantastic tour with Sergei of the Tallinn area. The seaside restaurant was absolutely delicious and very comfortable. We found the sites of Tallinn chosen for us to be very interesting including the palace and a "Soviet graveyard." He is well informed about the social, economic, and political culture of his country and answered our many questions honestly. This made the tour invaluable! I would highly recommend this tour. And, be sure to get Sergei as a guide if possible.

  Joanne was a terrific guide. It was just me and my 13-year-old son on the tour, and we couldn't have asked for anyone better. She was extremely knowledgeable, prepared, friendly and warm. With some of the oldest of the various sites on the tour, she displayed fascinating photos from the 19th century showing various stages in their construction -- along with architectural plans that were rejected. And she brought those photos to life by telling inside stories about the historical figures behind it all.

  Oguz is a first class guide with such amazing knowledge. And Emre, our driver made the long journey to Gallipoli safe and efficient. The tour was enhanced by Oguz' knowledge of all things Istanbul and Turkey, not just history and heritage but his open discussions about the region. The day is long, almost 12 hours, so you should only do it with such an expert. The Turkish representation of ANZAC cove from both sides is first class. Thankyou.

  With the unfortunate bad rap Acapulco seems to get concerning violence, my wife and I elected to hire a guide. We liked Rudy's website and the rest is history. Rudy was proactive in setting up a means to communicate well before our tour and picked us up on time in a very clean and comfortable van.   We enjoyed Rudy and Poncho so much, we booked them again for a 2nd adventure. We did an in-depth city excursion learning much about local culture. We visited a local piñata shop, a local bakery, spectacular bay views and the thriving marketplace. Both knew a lot of people along the way and we NEVER felt uncomfortable in the areas we visited. The cliff divers were special and Rudy knew the absolute best spot to view this spectacle. They were happy to tailor their tour to meet our requests.

  Our journey began with him waiting for us at terminal track. He then asked where I wanted to go or what I wanted to see. I left the recommendations to him and he did not disappoint. Ravello was bellisimo! Drive down Almafi was breath taking but took longer than anticipated do to traffic (unpredictable). Nonetheless we still made it to Pompeii and Giuseppe pleased us with highlights tour (we had to catch train back to Rome). Knowledgeable and friendly. From beginning to end; no dull moment with Giuseppe.

  I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to understand more of the complicated history that is Northern Ireland's past. Paul does an exceptional job blending the past and present through oral and visual story telling. I was at the end of my seat for the duration of this tour. No detail was missed and I felt the time was utilized well. To top everything off Paul provided all amenities with a smile and treats (topping of your choice). Best tour I took in Ireland. Period.

  Outr tour guide was Natasha, the wife of Sergio, who was unable to do the tour due to an accident. While we were sorry about Sergio, Natasha was an outstanding guide.   One of the best day tours we have taken. Ricardo set an itinerary of amazing places that we never would have found on out own. And he edited and changed the itinerary to accommodate us. We went to an amazing vineyard, wonderful tavern lunch, and an incredible wine tasting. Plus he shared his love for Porto and the Duoro region along the way. We have 4 children, ages 6 through 15, & he kept things engaging and informative for them as well as for my wife and I. He took us to all the major American battlefields, as well as some lesser-known spots.   This is a great tour, and I strongly recommend it for anyone who is interested or just mere curious about Buddhism. Ramesh is very good tour guide, knowledgable, helpful and most of all very accommodating to all your needs. A side note: unless they finish with this major road construction, I would not recommend driving (it took us close to 11 hours and the drive was rough and painful). Fly there instead, it is worth every penny spent on the tickets.

  This was a great hike with a lovely guide, Kamen. The road to our starting point had been washed away by flooding and was impassable, but Kamen's resourcefulness saved the day and the walk went according to plan. It was a beautiful walk, up stony mountain tracks, through forests, across meadows, with panoramic vistas of the Rhodope mountains all the way to Greece. The best thing was being with a local. Kamen was very knowledgeable about the area, and Bulgarian history and we learnt so much. Thank you!

  Karin was a great tour guide. She is so knowledgeable about German history and tells it in such an easy way to follow and understand. She is passionate about what she does.
