I'm really disappointed with Windows 8 because its not really designed with the PC or laptop in mind - especially if you don't use a touch screen. But, Win 7 was an excellent step up from XP. Easy to install and this version gives me access to BitLocker. Was an excellent value.

I've been sitting on my old install of XP for a long, long time because I didn't like the alternatives, but I am quite happy with Windows 7. I did install a shell to change the start menu to ""classic"" because I prefer that. I've had this a month or more and in all that time have had only one crash, so it's far more stable than Vista.

I tried windows 8 pro and switched back to windows 7 ultimate within a week. I like Win 7 Ultimate b/c it allows me to use bitlocker to secure my hard drives. If microsoft does not make significant changes to windows 8, then windows 7 will be the last windows operating system I use. I will likely jump ship to iOS after that.

This is a descent operating system at best, Although an improvement over Windows Vista it still lack the functionality of Linux and Mac OS X. Installed this Window 7 into Mac Mini with VM Fusion 4. Microsoft recognized the registration number and it is working fine. Recommend installing 8GB RAM on the Mac Mini to make it work smoothly. I can switch back and forth between Lion and Window 7 nearly instantly. I use some softwares on Window that are not supported on Mac so this is a pretty good arrangement. Get to have best of both worlds.

While I personally use Windows 8.1 my wife prefers Windows 7 Ultimate. She is a Korean speaker and Windows 7 Ultimate seems to be a better rendition of modern Korean symbology, plus Windows 7 behaves more conventionally like Windows 95 and XP always have, so it is easier for her (And me) to find and use what you need. No need to learn the frustrations of Windows 8

Windows 7 is awesome. I went to BestBuy to try to find Windows 7 but it was 3 or 4 days after the release of Windows 8, so they ""got rid of"" all their W7 copies. I can always rely on Amazon! As to the technical review, W7U performs like no other. Indexing speed is very fast as well as HDD searching (from the start menu, Vista was much slower). Also much nicer than OEM as you get full access to all of it's features.

I notice Windows 7 remains more expensive than Windows 8. Usually this would surprise me, but after installing Windows 8 I realize that Windows 7 is a more viable operating system. Even considering the minimal performance benefits of Windows 8, I recommend Windows 7 for over 90% of people who ask me about this issue. You would have to be an IT genius or someone who has never used a computer to be a good fit for Windows 8. If you are a gamer, developer, designer, casual user, professional, or someone who has owned Windows in the past, Windows 7 Ultimate is probably the best OS you could possibly buy.The OS is straight forward and builds upon the legacy of Microsoft Windows, maintaining the features of the past while building upon them in innovative and helpful ways. I love how Windows 7 allows for easy searching of features like the ""device manager""--simply tap the Start button on your keyboard and type ""device manager"". In Windows 8 this process is confusing and requires more navigation and clicking to achieve the same result. Performing the same exact process in Windows 8 results in an error. In Windows 7 dragging a Window to the left, right, or top edge of the screen neatly optimizes the Window to fit the left half, right half, or whole screen. Hotkeys Windows-Left-Arrow, Windows-Right-Arrow, and Windows-Up-Arrow perform the same tasks--genius! (These keys are maintained within Windows 8).From an IT perspective Windows 7 is a deployment breeze. It is very intelligent about working the first time after installation, usually with functioning drivers already installed. In some cases I have to go to another PC and find a network driver for a laptop build, but this is rare. Windows 7 crashes less frequently than other versions of Windows, but will show the BSOD if you junk it up enough. Like previous versions of Windows, Windows 7 has the famous ""registry""--a flawed yet still-used concept that remains the Achilles' heel of Windows. (The best software runs by itself without modifying the Windows registry).Windows 7 scales back the pretty design-factor present in Windows Vista. For some users this will be a let down, but in general it doesn't seem to matter. Microsoft focused more on reliability than visual flare. (Windows 8 furthers this trend, looking flat and cardboard-like in a world of growing 3D interest). Windows 7 remains elegant and reliable -- a combination of factors I hope is restored in Windows 9.My least favorite aspect of this OS remains the fragmented versions and the cost. I would prefer a single version, similar to the way Apple does it, at a much lower cost. I would prefer to give Microsoft $19.99 or $29.99 for a direct download of this OS. Time will tell if Microsoft changes their pricing and distribution models. Either way I highly recommend Windows 7, and Amazon seems to have the best deal going here.

Was concerned that I had purchased this ""builders"" edition by mistake...but put it in dvd player and rebooted. If offered option to upgrade from Vista or do a full install of Win7. Selecting full install, it installed itself with no problems. I was surprised that it created a directory called, Windows.old --- it copied a ton of personal folders from the prior Vista. I was pleasantly surprised that my dual boot startup of Ubuntu survived. The install is totally free of ""free software"" & any other bloat ware. The desktop has only the recycle folder...what a nice clean look. Runs great also. I would recommend this to anyone.

Yeah, my iMac is ""obsolete."" Yeah, it lacks niceties such as Retina Displays and HD webcams and multi-terabyte or Fusion Drives. But it was a system that was 64-bit capable and since I had a 64-bit Ultimate full install all keyed up for it, I put it in there, found a workaround for the Snow Leopard Boot Camp drivers (Lion/Mountain Lion drivers don't support the easy 64-bit enabler hack) and I got it going and it's like my PC running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium except much better in graphics (dual 6.4's as opposed to a 4.6 and a 5.5) and the CPU is right where you'd expect a dual-core CPU and memory with 500MHz less oomph, no hyper-threading, fewer instructions, 2GB less memory, older memory architecture, etc. to be. With 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate I get dual 6.3's. With 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate I get the same scores for CPU and memory as I do for graphics, which is a free upgrade just by switching to 64-bit.Now I can help more people because I can have a wider range of Windows 7 versions ready to compare my working installations to their messed up installations. It's a miracle to have the use of a full 4GB of memory-let alone more than that, I'm just excited about 4GB of memory all being usable now.)It proves that, despite 64-bit's driver issues, that it's better than 64-bit Vista or 8 (but then again that's like saying a chamois for your treasured truck, car, or motorcycle is better than polished (or not) dino poo. No offense to those who like the latter, in operating systems or inanimate objects, of course. You can be wrong and still exist because that's the way the world turns.

I'm a huge fan of Windows 7.I was an early adopter by beta testing this prior to it going live and I could not have been happier. Even now, years later, I'm still thrilled with Windows 7.Where I work, we are still on XP, but at home, it's all Windows 7. Everything works. This in my opinion is a true XP replacement.Windows Vista was so truly horrible. It was like Windows ME... it was slow, buggy and worked badly. Vista is/was the same way. You could not count on it being stable. You could count on your PC being slow.Like what Microsoft did with Office 2007... they ripped off their customers with Vista.I've used all versions of Windows 7. Home premium, professional and Ultimate. Again, I'm very pleased.I am now trying Windows 8.Once again, Microsoft in all of their infinite wisdom decided that the consumers don't need a START button. They did not even allow us to CHOOSE. IT's just gone. So if you go with Windows 8, you'll have to find a free one or go buy one. For this reason, I would not recommend Windows 8.Yes, it's a touch faster than Windows 7... but it is NOT compatible with all programs that run on Windows 7. So there are several programs where I'm forced to spend $$ and upgrade. My recommendation is to stick with Windows 7. It's a good, solid and fast OS. I just cannot complain at all about Windows 7.

I refurbished a system that was 5 years old: a dual core, 6600hrz, 2.4Ghz desktop with 32 bit Vista ...a good machine, but after five years it should be used as a paper weight. Fortunately it allowed for 64 bit processing. After loading programs and files, there was the usual UPDATING CIRCUS. Some where moderately large, but overall not too bad ...maybe a dozen restarts. The vast majority of updates were for the software programs which had been lost in the conversion to 64bit. This was a fresh beginning. So, finally, with all major updates, programs and files installed, we were ready to take Windows 7 for a test ride! Now, remember, this is a 5 year old dual-core paper weight! And, Jiminy Cricket! The machine FLIES! This isn't just a trivial change, but an obvious and major improvement in speed. I am impressed! As a comparison, my year old, fairly robust, work PC system appears no faster using MS Office programs. I also notice that overall, as compared to the Vista (and XP), that Windows 7 appears more stable. Again, this is a significant and observable improvement in stability and not just a minor change.I could not be more pleased. I am exaggerating, but Windows 7 has made that ol' machine USEFUL again... it might just last another 5 years!I recommend Windows 7 to everyone with a computer that supports 64 bit processing! Get it!NOTE: Some hardware dropped (Scanner) while other older programs (Fallout 3) performed better than before.

As a long time user of XP there were and still are some changes to get used to, but for the most part all is positive, and its just a matter of figuring out where what is again. I really like the option to pin things to the task bar, like anything whether its a program or a web page. I bought a trackpad to use with it, so that I could take advantage of the multitouch gesture support, and yeah they make things fun. Start up is fast, and the entering and exit from sleep mode is quick. The search bar is handy for when you want to access a setting but dont know where to look or dont feel like going thru layers of menus. Can't really say much else to reccomend it that others probably have, but anyway, yeah no buyers remorse here.I only picked Ultimate because I want the ability to do things on my computer in English and Japanese, and it provides this option thru its Language packs. So far this option works great. I'm looking to test out the voice commands options in Japanese soon too.

Good shipping time with okay packaging for good protection. With the promotion discount, even my IT guy wants to get 2 more for his personal usage.Pretty easy installation and works really well. The reason we upgrade to this version is because we need two monitors split when we remote in, which definitely make our job easier.

Rock-solid, secure, general users do not need more as the newer operating systems are about bells & whistles that Microsoft needs to use to make money. I would pay a yearly maintenance fee to update security issues for the O.S. and MSIE 11. Think about it Bill Gates, as the current leader is not.

I got this to be ""Compliant"" with my already previously accepted & registered & AUTHORISED WIndows 7 Pro. After a stupid up-date by Micro-Crap?? My Once authorised version of Windows 7 & registered number-key somehow became a bootleg unauthorised version (I think Micro-craps prompting me to upgrade to Windows 10 which I declined had something to do with it). After many many days of trying to circumvent, troubleshoot & resolve this issue with Micro-crap on the phone (What a JOKE!) & with ideas/suggestions from off of the Tech forums? I decided it was easier to just buy another System Disc & Number & simply inputted the ""New"" number.

Have been using all of the Windows OSs in my lifetime. I didn't care too much for Vista and I can't stand 8. XP has never given any issue but no longer is being supported. 7 however, is awesome. I can see why so many are downgrading from 8 back to 7. But with Ultimate it has some nice extras that work well with my mass of programs. If nothing else, maybe Microsoft can learn from this. Just because it works well on tablets and touch technologies, it does not mean it is friendly to the PC and laptop market.

When building my system I was second guessing switching from XP pro to Window 7 ultimate 64 bit but let me tell you I have had no issue with it. I run it with 4 gigs of memory and video card ATI HD5770. The applications I mostly run are MS office 2007, solid works 2010 and Autocad 2012. I have had no issue so far that I am please mention.

Microsoft DROPS support for Windows XP in April 2014 --trying to force you to upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1. To further force people into getting Windows 8 (8.1) Microsoft has also STOPPED selling ALL Versions of Windows 7! If you hurry, you might still be able to find copies of Windows 7 floating around in the supply chain (various stores, Internet Sellers, etc) I'd recommend you try to get Windows 7 Ultimate if you can, as it's the highest (most features) Version of Windows (short of the Corporate Enterprise Edition) a private citizen can get… also, if you have a lower version of Windows 7, Microsoft NO LONGER SUPPORTS the ""Windows Anytime Upgrade"" feature, where your ""Home"" or ""Professional"" Version of Windows could call up Microsoft, and for a fee $$, they would sell you an UpGrade KeyCode, that, when Entered into proper place, would ""unlock"" higher features of Windows, and turn your lower version of Windows into (usually Ultimate Version) HIGHER Version after about 10 minutes of reconfiguring and rebooting! Most experts advise Windows 7 is better for [NON-touchscreen] LapTops and DeskTop Computers and I concur. Latest word is Microsoft will continue support for Windows 7 out until the year 2020… and if we're lucky, maybe they will decide later to extend it out even farther for all us die-hard Windows 7 fans! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on various models of Apple Computers in their ""BootCamp"" Utility (iMac, MacMini, MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro Retina) and have found in many ways, Windows 7 more handy than Mac OS --iPhoto doesn't recognize Kodak Camera (so I can't import photos) but Windows 7 DOES recognize Kodak Camera! Several reports claim Windows 7 runs better on MAC than on a P.C. The MAC Utility ""BootCamp"" supports Windows 7 and 8 (but so far, NOT Windows 8.1) After spending many hours in Windows 7, it has only crashed (Blue Screen of Death) ONCE, and that was from watching several Miley Cyrus Music Videos OnLine, which Windows Status Support feature blamed on Video Driver Failure! (overloaded it?) Extensive Virus Scan took more than an hour, scanned more than two million files, came up negative, so I'll have to play it safe and avoid Miley Cyrus Videos from now on!

I used this to install windows 7 on Macbook Pro. Had to search through to figure out some things so summarizing it below:1) System builder edition vs. Full edition: System builder can only be used on one computer so as long as you are not planning to transfer to another computer, it should be fine.2) Computer manufacturer or individual owner: I think as long as you are using it to build a system it should be fine. Not clear on this one but I guess since Amazon is shipping it to individual purchasers then it must be ok. No issues activating the license for me.3) MacBook - windows install: Easily done using bootcamp and instructions (Google: windows 7 on mac using bootcamp). Had no problems with installations and windows 7 looks beautiful on the retina display.

The price is great for this operating system, provided you have experience in installing operating systems. Also note that there is no free support available in case of issues. The software arrived well packed and undamaged.

Skip Win 8 and go Win 7 if you have a PC. I've had it for such a long time and when I had to build my new PC I knew this is the way to go. Unless you have a touch screen, go Windows 7.

This software was easy to install and I found no errors in the installation. So far this implementation of MS Windows has been running faultlessly. If needed, I would buy another installation.
