  Very nice team, which in my opinion. Myself as a (hobby) photographer, traveling here brings a lot of positive experiences. You will be advised professionally and friendly. The prices are completely in order and partly on the level of cheaper online shops, but here it is the advice that counts. Since I myself recommend cameras, etc. I always want to touch myself, I would have to visit a shop before buying anything but in any case this would be my go-to shop in Manhattan.

  A down to earth store that lacks the puritanical attitudes of many of the other analog-centric stores in New York. They offer film production and scanning services at reasonable prices, and a tremendous, solid selection of film gear for sale (as well as digital cameras). I spent a good half an hour talking to the owner about all things film and shooting, and would recommend anyone else with a passion for shooting to drop by and support this reliable local shop.

  I bought a Sony Alpha 68 camera along with a lens, in this shop, via the Internet, because I had seen a good price comparison ratio, compared with other sources. In addition, the processing of the order went smoothly and I personally conducted a conversation with their staff, I found them very upfront and bleeding in knowledge.   Very fair prices and above all knowledgeable and patient staff. Independent advice without trying to induce one to buy. Diversity in selection of cameras and lenses to try and take in hand, including many gear bags and backpacks. Had some time ago popped in briefly for a new camera advice and recently bought here too. Will come again for a telephoto lens soon.

  Madison Avenue Cameras has always had a good deal along with safe delivery! I bought Nikon Z7 from online Madison Avenue shop. Shipping, packaging and delivery condition was impeccable and customer service also top-notch. First of all, Nikon Z7 is very attractive camera body currently in the market. I had Fujifilm mirrorless before and it served me in preparation to start take pictures. But z7 you can start easy and fast and additionally very light and small. but, z7 get out more good pictures than my Fujifilm. So, if you thinking to change camera, strongly recommend Nikon z7 model.

  Every time I have been here the repair guy has been working and he has been consistently friendly and helpful to me each time. While waiting in queue I have heard him explain some of the simplest problems to one customer and then complicated lens questions with another client. Each with patience, shrewdness and kindness. He sold me a Nikon d7600 camera, but the store is definitely rich in used 35mm gear. Even the used equipment comes with a warranty. You won't find many stores like this. They develop and scan film as well.

  They know what they're talking about, they also don't make you feel ignorant when you go in there just to pose your questions. Prices are fair, especially considering their people are actually really helpful when trying to make a decision, they're not just trying to sell you the most expensive item they have. Rare these days! Keep this place timeless!

  First-rate merchandise, checked in and confirmed by feeling everything is top of the range. You can always find something here. Avoid buying every part as a spare. You end up using worthless equipment at the same rate as China's dirty cheap scrap. Safe pair of hands for quality can be found here. Thank you for the great offer of the Manfrotto tripod. It was affordable for me. And so great. I'll definitely come on my next visit to Manhattan. Thank you!

  For me, years have always been a journey back in time. I love this shop because it still retains the feel of a traditional camera store. No modern pop, all vine and no tatters garbage! The staff nice and friendly and not pushy like the big shops.

  Was recommended to me by a friend from Manhattan and I am super happy to have found such an ultra-rare treasure trove of photo shop! Excellent selection of cameras, you will always find an exciting new camera there and also help with repairs. Most cameras can be repaired here and in the stubborn defects that this is not possible elsewhere, this is a coalface where this could be done! I wish such a business would also exist in Detroit!

  I sold a lens through Madison Avenue Camera, Manhattan in early 2019 and in the process spent a little while in their store. The staff was very friendly, knowledgable and happy to talk cameras/lenses/etc or let me try a few new things that had recently come in.   Absolutely cool space, if you're in the area be sure to stop in to explore. It's definitely a valuable shop to have around. It's a super convenient location to pick up rare and interesting film for many different formats, as well as photo development supplies. They also have a massive selection of unique and rare film cameras all of which (I was assured) were tested to ensure functionality. The store seems to have a second life as an exhibition space/gallery where you can chill, buy a beer or coffee and flip through photo books and view local artists/photographers.

  Since I got into analogue photography, I've been going to this shop and asking for advice. The camera and lens I bought still work like a charm. Films are always developed and scanned within a week, with a superior hand. Everyone working there is nice, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do. I have tried some of the other shops around at some point, I just don't see the point anymore in going anywhere else

  Staff has superb product knowledge. As equally, they are friendly and helpful, even to a novice telescope owner who somehow spent very little in the store. This store is a great find full of history and variety of products a mountain if you are in willing to climb up and strike your luck.

  These guys are total gems. Incredibly helpful and able to make things work. I went in to pick up my gear, but had made a scheduling mistake on my end. They went above and beyond to help resolve it and I left feeling relieved and happy. I'll definitely be renting all my gear from them in the future

  Nice store, great collection of books, lots of camera on display telling the story of camera invention since the very first. Beautiful place, the staff is super knowledgeable and the photo exhibit I saw was mesmerizing. They also have accessories for your camera as well as an extensive and very well curated selection of photography books. A must-see!

  A beautiful store with a very charming, "artistic aesthetic" layout. Rotating photographers show their work, and at first the room feels more like a photographic gallery than store. The staff was helpful and friendly, and there's a large cabinet of used gear as well as new. The used cameras were fairly priced and in great condition, at least by manufacturers' standards🤑

  I am a Madison Avenue Cameras fan and this review is unbiased - the store has such an ambiance of class and exquisite sophistication. Their store has a good gallery, and they feature various photographers on a monthy basis. Get involved with this store if you are into photography. Sign up with their mailing list. They hold events and classes and they are always up to date with the latest camera happenings. Huge selection of top brands cameras and lenses Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, - they even have the rarest lenses for the Leica brand. Jonathan is super resourceful, ask him anything. Excellent selection of camera bags and books. I always spend an hour in here when I visit the city. Parking is carved out along the streets, there’s a couple coffee shops within a block🍑🍜

  Took a Camera Level One class through this store (teacher was James). Excellent. I’ve taken one class before (at a totally different store), and this one was far superior. The class delivered everything that was promised: types of Cameras (including their uses, pros and cons), lenses (with a bit of testing each type), pro gear, etc. We had lots of time in the session, launching at a quiet location near the shop. We spent a few hours learning and practicing different configurations: long range, point & shoot, stop, a couple of ways to shoot aerial, sideways. The teachers encouraged a bit of friendly competition among the students through a game of tag so we could practice our shots without over-thinking things. In the afternoon, we learned a couple of different assisted-shooting: for this we went into rougher locations. I came away far more confident that I could actually practice this hobby efficiently and with increasing competence.

  This store is a cove of calm waters after a tumultuous shopping storm. Not only do they have a great variety of Canon and accessories supplies as well as everything for the avid photography enthusiast. They have a wide variety of gift ideas.   Rented lenses here, great price and very very friendly service. Super convenient rental process. Less one star only because upon return the attitudes were extremely condescending (no fault to them, obviously) which made it very hard to get out and unluckily there were no staff available to assist. Luckily there were a few strangers very willing to help so it was fine.

  I was so thrilled with the knowledge and patience of the staff!! I think I tried every telescope at every price point and they didn't rush me in the height of the festival of Saturn's rhythmic rings. I ended with an instrument that are great and within the budget I originally told the sales person. I am looking them up to buy a second telescope for my family! Because we started fighting over the 'good' scopes :) I also walked away before buying and tried to find out if the price was fair being in an astronomy 'lovers' town... they were cheaper than anywhere else on the net.

  Recently I visited Madison Avenue Cameras to purchase microscopes for the Oakland Schools, MI in Biology Practical Skills Major program. Our students are very engaged in Biology science projects and field studies that require the use of microscopes. When I explained the purpose of my purchase to store owner Jack, he very generously offered to donate three pieces of quality microscope to supplement the three I was able to purchase within our budget. Students have already used the equipment several times and have witnessed some rare cell cytoplasmic streaming. Thank you for inspiring a new generation of young biologists!

  I bought my original Canon EOS-1D X Mark III from Madison Avenue Cameras and loved them. I stayed with them everywhere until they were relocating in New York last month. The staff at Madison Avenue store were kind and helpful! I've now replaced them and even got a new hat as part of the deal! They have the best prices and customer service anywhere!

  First time I interacted with these guys, I had a deadline and needed to get very prudent with my budgeting. Carl and Stuart at the repair department helped me knit together a cheap shutter I bought from China. They made the world of difference by substituting the key component with strong metal pieces and helped lens focus precisely and save me tons by getting an apperture monitor. I was onset shooting for a show in New York, the client was blown away by the quality of shots and the price of the equipment. Carl and Stuart got very imaginative with my budget and I can not believe the deals I struck. Most places seem to be more worried about selling you on the most pricey equipment but these guys are truly interested in helping you get the best BANG for your BUCK. They made such a knock on effect that the next time I need gear I am going to call and make sure they are working to make sure I am in a safe pair of hands.

  I have been purchasing from Madison Avenue Camera for 17 years. I buy top of the line, high end equipment such as lenses and lighting. These people have the patience of saints as far as I am concerned.   I’m a veteran freelance photographer... this is my go to in Manhattan... the store along 32 Street ... it’s better than candy ... it’s so good it makes this girl cry ... so be sure to take your time and dream and return again and again ... each floor is full of goodies and the rental division is great... as a photographer I can’t live without Madison Avenue Camera ... and whether you are a pro or not GO there and learn and get better... I bought my mirrorless there , Hasselblad, Fujifilm, Canon , lighting equipment .... all digital and printers .... go and shoot ... 🤸

  I really like this place as a Pentax shooter and I can say I love it since their selection of Pentax gear is infinite. They also carry a great selection of Canon, Nikon, Sony, Hasselblad, Leica and other camera brands. They also encompass an assortment of lighting equipment, tripods, monopods, video equipment, printers and much more. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Some of their employees have worked there for over four decades! By the way, it is a specialized camera store, and it is chock full of goodies. They have plenty of parking as well, and nice coffee shops nearby. There was also a huge classic portrait on the facade when I visited.

  Madison Avenue Cameras is a great place to ask questions and familiarize yourself with the various top brand cameras. It also has a wonderful selection that showcases a variety of the latest cameras - I have seen top end DSLRs, mirrorless, urban street photography, the conceptual and abstract, skateboarding and the aerial photography, to name a few. The gallery and store also has weekend classes under the auspices of major brands, I was able to feel, test and sparked a lengthy conversation which focuses on a photographers inspiration, process and workflow, balanced by a slideshow of their work followed by a question and answer session. The Nikon lineup is rich with inspiration and creativity!

  Nothing short of excellent, very friendly staff, made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in even if we were just browsing. Happy to grant me trial the latest Lumix camera and friendly general talk about photography. The art gallery is most definitely worth a look while the showroom has plenty on display to ogle over. Left with a gift and the nostalgia to head back to purchase a camera in the future. 25 yrs as a photographer and this is my best shop experience to date.

  Madison Avenue store in Manhattan is a must to visit for any dedicated Photographer. The selection of cameras is very nice and I especially appreciated the selection of photography books. The gallery itself is located on the second floor and is well worth visiting. The staff was very helpful, knowledgeable, dedicated and pleasant to talk to.

You can bring in your gear for repair, it may take months but it’s worth having an expert take care of your equipment.

Inside is a special gallery space, where different world-class photographers and upcoming talent make a bee line for. High end and top class is the name of this brand. Prices are sky-high because you are paying for the super-high quality that technology can produce. This store is fully stocked with all the latest camera bodies & lenses. They have an amazing display with exotic equipment and museum-like demos of what cameras look like on the inside. Books, backpacks, camera straps, pins, and all sorts of other accessories can be found here.

  The store is nice and the gallery is magnificent. The Fujifilm, Nikon, Lumix, Sony, Leica cameras looked terrific, and the staff seemed to be very attentive to the customers. The cameras and lenses are way out of my price range, so I did not personally check them out. I did have a nice time in the gallery. The store does have spacious parking, so take advantage of it. Parking in the residential neighborhood next to the store will get you a fine, and I understand they are stringent about it.

  Madison Avenue Cameras has it all: all you need in photography for the mastery level or novice like myself. Better than shopping on online you can actually flirt with the devices and ask questions. Mostly the same prices as Amazon, with substantial manufacturers' discounts. Forget the weekends where there's always a wait to talk to a associates. Best to go here on a weekday during the day to spend decent time with a salesperson, all of whom are knowledgeable at an expert level. Several departments in what seems to have been an electronics store at one time.

  Before and during the Covid pandemic, Madison Ave Cam has always been my go-to camera and film processing preference. Madison Camera has always had a wide variety of quality equipment and gear. The staff is always professional and patient. Even with a novice who has a bunch of dumb questions. I always get my advice from Madison and will be returning for the holiday specials. I have quite a bit of tech toys to add to my collection for the new year. Also, the photography/videography accessory division is top-notch.

  The level of customer service in this store is impeccable. Went in yesterday to discuss upgrading my Fujifilm X-T30 and got the perfect advice, in depth knowledge on the camera and photography in general as well as the market and what to expect from future technologies - and how that would relate to what I buy now. I left feeling that I was making the right choice and at no point did I experience any sales pitch. A day later I also went in with my damaged Nikon lens and received amazing advice that really made my day. Can't wait to have another spending spree at this place. It is so good to have this store on the high street.

  This rating is strictly for customer service, as I have not yet purchased from them. I'll update this review after my purchase, to include not only the quality of thier services, but the availability and quality of their products. I contacted Madison Avenue Cameras by phone, and was met by a friendly and welcoming voice. I spoke with a man named Ronald, and he was thoroughly helpful in explaining things to me on a technical level. I didn't feel rushed, talking with him on the phone, even though I felt kind of bad taking up more of his time than I should have. After the phone call ended, I had more questions, which I asked via the website contact link. He not only remembered talking on the phone with me, but answered my questions promptly. Very professional and very helpful. The next part of my review will come after I've made the purchase in the middle of May, just a week and a few days from now. (I hope Verified reviews let's me update my review....)

  Received a coveted digital camera as a gift. Took the one on one training to learn how to operate the camera. Learned more in less than 1 hour and I absorbed in all the Videos content I had seen.   If you're in the market for any photographic/videographic equipment make this your first stop, the staff are extremely knowledgable and photographers. It is the oldest and most respected store in New York, their customer service is first class and makes a refreshing change in today's world. They listen to your requirements, concerns and go out of their way to ensure that you are 110% satisfied with you purchase, if things do wrong they work closely with all the major manufacturers on your behalf. I'm a professional photographer and I would not purchase my photographic equipment anywhere else, even recommending them on my Magnetic Memories web page. Microphones/ adapters are a bit pricey, they should be discounted when buying a new camera here, but I can only imagine the rent price at this place.
